Watergate Bay is a mini-foodie haven which includes an uber-chic café, The Beach Hut. Café rather understates what The Beach Hut offers to the glutton. It is one, a beautiful beach-side hang out and two, a restaurant serving some of the best squid I have ever tasted.
Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch through the winter, the menu is a classic combination of burgers, fish and out of this world crispy squid.
The Beach Hut is headed up by Executive Chef Neil Haydock, and it is his passion for American cooking that you will see in the delicious menu and the epic portions. A true global chef Neil has lived and worked all over the world before settling on the beach at Watergate Bay. Provenance is important. Neil works with a trusted bunch of producers and supplies, most Cornish but some specialists in their field sourcing foods from all over the world. Food at The Beach Hut is testament to his honest approach and creative zeal.
The atmosphere buzzes. It is a really vibrant and happy place full of lovely people eating yummy food. As a top tip, if you are an early bird type, run down the cliffs along the coastal path or slip into the sea for a dawn-surf and chase this all with a Beach Hut breakfast. Obviously a full English fry-up is on the cards post virtuous activity – think sausages, dry-cured bacon, eggs, beef tomato, flat mushroom and toast. However they also do a pretty mean pancakes complete with Maple syrup and bacon.

The Beach Hut Extreme Hot Chocolate is also a site to behold. Never will you see a bigger, whipped cream topped, chocolate indulgence with chocolate jazzles as accessories than will be served to you at the Beach Hut. Parents – this is the ultimate of bribes for the little ones – and you are advised to undertake a big dog walk across the beach either before or after. The café is also dog-friendly, just as an aside.
