The filming locations of Rosamunde Pilcher

A Cornish girl born and bred (Lelant in West Cornwall to be exact), Rosamunde Pilcher has written dozens of novels and short story collections. She may have moved to Scotland once she was married, but it seems her love of Cornwall never left her as many of her books are set in this picturesque county.

Many a German film crew have been spotted throughout Cornwall - from Land's End to the Lizard and Penzance to Padstow.

Pilcher may not be such a widespread household name here in the UK, but in Germany she is famous not so much for her books but for the TV adaptations that have been made that have become a Sunday night tradition. Many a German film crew have been spotted throughout Cornwall – from Land’s End to the Lizard and Penzance to Padstow.

In fact one of our very own retreats has been used in one of her adaptations. The lovely Fentafriddle, situated on the wild North coast, starred as a setting during filming last year. Situated on an estate with two other retreats – Little Fentafriddle and Tremanon – they are a perfect backdrop to the unfurling drama of her romances. Another top spot used is the lovely Prideaux Place near Padstow. This lovely Elizabethan manor has been used for numerous adaptations and is well worth visiting. We have some lovely properties near Padstow from which to explore this well-loved spot and make sure to have a good appetite as it’s also the foodie capital of Cornwall!

Penzance, Lamorna Cove, St. Michael’s Mount and Land’s End have also featured heavily and it’s not surprising – with stunning clifftops, wild moors, glistening seas and pretty coves they are perfect backdrops for even the most dramatic of storylines. Our luxury cottages in the far West of Cornwall make for a great base from which to explore these epic spots.

The South coast of Cornwall doesn’t miss out though, with Falmouth, a lovely seaside town, Fowey, beloved by the sailing set, Truro and the very atmospheric Pencarrow House five miles from Bodmin having starred in many of her productions. We have some stunning retreats on the South coast of Cornwall from which to explore – from a Regency town house to a fisherman’s cottage, even a stunning eight bedroom seaside house with its very own mooring.....fit for a Rosamunde Pilcher novel, we say!
