Westonbirt Arboretum

Westonbirt Arboretum

Close to Tetbury, and home to 15,000 trees (around 2,500 types of tree) this beautiful spot is well worth a visit when you’re after some fresh air and a good walk. With certain areas allowing dogs, this is a great place if you have your pooch with you too.

Established in the 1850’s, Westonbirt has grown to include 17 miles of pathways through five collections of trees, including the Old Arboretum (a dog free area) and Silk Wood (dog friendly).

Within the Old Arboretum, you’ll find a landscaped area showcasing the Victorian style of avenues and vistas, with trees carefully positioned – parasols optional here!

Silk Wood is a more natural space but still home to rare and unusual trees, as well as a wide expanse of grasslands.

Its displays in autumn and spring are particularly renowned (it has a great display of rhododendron, azalea and magnolia trees) but it’s beautiful throughout the year, and a perfect natural antidote to city life.

On top of this, Westonbirt is host to a wide range of events, from an Enchanted Christmas to musical events, so do take a look at their website to see what’s on before you go.
