The Tavern, Cheltenham
Head to The Tavern for some great tuck without the formality. With music from 10.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays, this is the place hip young things head to for a bite to eat and a laid back vibe. But don’t think it’s slapdash in any way – it’s won a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2017, the food is excellent and the drinks spot on.
Popular with locals, The Tavern is tucked away just off of the Promenade in the centre of town. If you’re hungry and carb-starved (who isn’t after a day out exploring?) this is the joint to head to with excellent artisan burgers, unctuous mac and cheese, sinful sundaes and a fab selection of drinks and cocktails. Food is also served until midnight, so there’s no rush to finish up and move on.
Like any conscientious restaurant these days, produce is locally sourced and thoughtfully prepared but don’t expect subtlety – this is food with impact, especially to your waistband.
Oh well, you’ll just have to dance the night away afterwards.
