Uniquely perched on its very own island in the sea above Towan Beach in Newquay and approached by a private suspension footbridge, The Island is magical and iconic with unrivalled Atlantic Ocean views. Is this possibly the ultimate beach house?
Towan Beach is directly below The Island, just a quick walk across the bridge, down the steps and your feet are in the sand. This beautiful beach is very popular with both families and surfers, as it is located in the centre of Newquay, and it can be lively during the peak summer months. Lifeguard cover runs from mid May to the end of September and dogs are allowed all year round. The Blue Reef Aquarium, right by the beach, is well worth a visit. At low tide you can walk all the way across the beach to the traditional Cornish harbour, where you can find an excellent crab sandwich or ice cream.

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to where you choose to eat, whether it's a BBQ on the terrace, a family feast in the kitchen or an elegant seafood banquet in the dining room, you must of course finish with after dinner drinks on the lower deck watching the sun go down. The Island sits in the bay surrounded by sand at low tide and sea at high tide so when you've had a day enjoying the sand and sea you can walk back up to your elevated position on The Island and enjoy the beautiful gardens which wrap around the house. The landscaping and planting along with seating in The Island's garden has been carefully planned and adapted over the years so you'll always find a sheltered spot to relax in. There are romantic little hideaways where you can enjoy the mesmerising views out to the Atlantic Ocean's horizon and for dining al fresco there is a lovely area complete with pergola, fairy lights and barbecue. If you are visiting in winter, perhaps to make the most of some storm watching, you can take shelter in the conservatory then tuck up by one of the wood burners in the evenings.
The Island is equipped with WiFi, so if you need to keep in touch with the outside world you can.
One toy dog will be accepted, please call us to arrange first. We charge £30 per week or short break. Towan Beach which is directly below The Island, is dog friendly all year around.
There is a washer/dryer, dishwasher, electric hob, electric cooker and coffee maker at the house. One cot and one highchair are provided.
Parking and access
The property comes with an electric-door double garage just round the corner, suitable for two cars, including 4x4's.
After parking your car, head towards the sea, down just the first flight of the public steps down to Towan beach, and find the green door discreetly set into the wall which acts as a little Narnia door leading to the suspension bridge and your own private, magical world of the house above the sea!
Once you are there, you may not want to leave The Island. But if you do choose to explore from this amazing property then there is a great deal you can do without even touching the car, so if you have flown into nearby Newquay airport you don't really have to hire a car. There are stunning cliff walks, bays and beaches within easy walking distance of The Island, starting on its doorstep. There are so many great surfing beaches to choose from you will find that perfect wave and acres of sand to enjoy. If you prefer nightlife, Newquay can be a very lively town, especially in the summer, and boasts many restaurants, pubs and bars. Its shops are conveniently just minutes away. For quieter and quainter times, a walk over the foot ferry to Crantock has to be done to enjoy a really quaint pub lunch. Or work up an appetite by taking the beautiful cliff-top walk at sunset round several bays to Jamie Oliver's highly acclaimed restaurant, Fifteen, and afterwards you are just a 10 minute cab ride home by the inland road route.
Further afield, where the car will be needed, there is a plethora of restaurants and activities to enjoy. Nathan Outlaw and Rick Stein in their various coastal abodes offer a wonderful variety of dining day or night. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Eden Project and further south Glendurgan and Trebah are all very special and inspirational places to visit. Whatever you wish to do, we think that The Island's central location on the beautiful north coast provides easy access to all that Cornwall has to offer.

"Hard to find words to begin to describe this property, we think a big fat 'Wow' to start. The house with all its nooks, crannies, new decor mixed with the old gives a cozy, stylish but lively feel to the house. So much character, great idea raising the flag of your choice and then there's the bridge! Totally transforming the house into a magical setting.....cannot wait to come back" - September 2016
