Gorgeous Mermaid Cottage - one of The Times newspaper's Top 50 Beach Houses - perches above Porthcurnick beach with superb panoramic views over Gerrans Bay. Chock-full of seaside chic, this is where idyllic holiday memories are made. Just a stone's throw from some seriously secret Cornish spots, it combines the delights of buckets, spades and sandcastles with to-die-for Cornish foodie haunts, all within a couple of miles.
Within this luxury cottage in Cornwall the big family kitchen/dining-room is the heart of the house, with a chunky Art Deco dining table complete with Eames dining chairs, perfect to gather around for holiday meals and a sofa to retreat to when replete. Huge bi-fold doors open out to the big terraced deck so you can bring the inside out or the outside in when the sun shines down. The lower deck has wonderfully comfortable outdoor sofas and chairs with the upper level becoming an al fresco dining room on balmy days. The snug sitting room is perfect for playing board games, watching movies or relaxing on the sofa with a good book, snuggled in the glow of the wood burning stove.
With sparkling black granite worktops and a range of stainless steel appliances gleaming enticingly the open-plan kitchen is ideal for flexing your culinary muscles and preparing glorious family feasts. With everything you need for easy cooking and a touch of luxury thrown in - from the Nespresso machine to the huge Aga fridge - holiday catering could not be better catered for! The amazingly well-stocked Curgurrell Farm shop is just down the lane, selling crabs, lobsters and fresh fish all caught locally using their own boats, as well as home grown and local garden produce and free range eggs; no excuses for not eating well when staying at this luxury homestay! However, if MasterChef is not quite in your thing then why not sneak off to one of the local gastronomic eateries just a few minutes' walk from the house.
Perfect for comfortably hosting a family, Mermaid has three double bedrooms, as well as a snug children's dorm on the top floor with four single beds - complete with its very own cuddly elephant and lion (not to mention the Playstation!) The gorgeous master bedroom has a king sized Feather and Black Sienna bed and an en suite wet room while the other two bedrooms are generous doubles with equally sumptuous mattresses and gorgeous bed linen.
In addition to the en suite wet room, kitted out with a drenching power shower, there is a full size family bathroom on the top floor and a third on the ground floor. There is also a fully-heated outside drench-head shower for hosing off after a sandy day at the beach!
Mermaid Cottage has a huge, beautifully landscaped private garden which curls around the property in an enchanting mix of lawns and shrub-filled beds and borders. There is a lovely hexagonal summerhouse tucked snugly away, the perfect place for early evening G&Ts or for those who want to slip away for a little peace and quiet. Fully enclosed and with plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, this is a wonderful space for children's games. Sandy Porthbean Beach is just a few minutes' walk away so there is no need to get the car out to enjoy a magical day by the water.
A dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, Nespresso machine, BBQ, wooden cot, travel cot and highchair are provided.

Places to eat
There are so many lovely eating spots and all not far from Mermaid Cottage.
The Rosevine is a New England-inspired get-away with a laid back feel; it is a very short walk (maximum 5 minutes) from Mermaid and is perfect for a lunch and a swim. It's very family-friendly in a wonderful location and with wonderful food.
Driftwood is a fabulous boutique beach house hotel and restaurant with amazing sea views, just up the road from Mermaid with a Cornish-bred Michelin starred chef, Chris Eden.
The Idle Rocks is simply fabulous and is in nearby St Mawes.
Hotel Tresanton in St Mawes overlooks the water and has a superb reputation (owned by Olga Pollizi, the renowned hotelier and daughter of the late hotel magnate Lord Forte). This is a fantastic place to eat, whether it's lunch, a cream tea or a wonderful evening meal.
The Roseland Inn in Philleigh serves delicious food in a lovely rural village setting.
And for something just a little different......try The Hidden Hut beach cafe, found beside the coastal footpath and only accessible on foot.... plus it's only a 10 minute walk away from the house. It's a wooden beach-side shed serving simple fresh food and drink from March through to October. In theory everything is to take away, but there's an outdoor seating area to the front with uninterrupted views out to sea and across the bay to Portscatho should you wish to sit down and relax. Their feast nights are fabulous, these are only available by pre-booked ticket as they're so popular!
Mermaid Cottage has WiFi, so if you need to keep in touch with the outside world you can.
