Dorset House is a truly beautiful home stay, and one we're so excited to join our portfolio for peak periods during the year. The rest of the time it's an award-winning bed and breakfast - it's ranked one of the top three bed and breakfasts in the country by Visit England and The Sunday Times, as well as having a host of other accolades.
Chock-full of original Georgian features throughout from varnished wooden flooring to open fireplaces, this spacious home has five en suite bedrooms, a huge kitchen and dining room plus plenty of living space as well as sea views. It's an ideal retreat for larger gatherings such as an extended family gathering or a getaway for a group of friends, and with the town, beaches and a host of restaurants just a short walk away you don't have to step in a car if you don't want to.
The fabulous snug is for hiding away in - in warmer weather the sun floods in so you can laze in the sunshine like a cat and enjoy the sea breeze through the veranda doors, whilst in the winter the cosy wood burning stove give off plenty of heat - ideal for snuggling up to and reading a book.
For those evenings when only a film will do, there's a cinema room complete with projector TV, loads of comfy sofas to lie back in and a huge selection of DVDs to choose from, as well as an Amazon fire stick, an Xbox and a Wii.
If you want to keep things tech-free, there's a great selection of books and board games too.
Wow - Dorset House is blessed with the most incredible kitchen to satisfy even the most demanding of chefs. At it's heart is the glorious two-oven Aga, whilst you'll also find a conventional hob, a fab American style Fisher & Paykel fridge-freezer, a state-of-the-art coffee machine plus all the other amenities you might need - you'll even find a Nutribullet, Magimix and spiralizer! This great space also boasts a huge kitchen table with seating for ten and a sofa and armchairs, so everyone can keep the chef company, whilst a handy utility room houses all your laundry needs.
There's a beautiful dining room too, with glorious original floor-to-ceiling windows which let lots of light in, plus original fireplace. The dining table seats fourteen, so there's plenty of space for long, lovely mealtimes filled with chatter and laughter.
There are five gorgeously appointed en suite bedrooms, each with oodles of original features such as exposed, glossy wooden floorboards, window shutters and traditional fireplaces. Four of the bedrooms have king-sized beds, whilst there is a further double. Each bed is bedecked in the crispest of linens with gorgeous, fluffy Hungarian goose down duvets and pillows whilst the rooms are exquisitely furnished complete with original artwork, sumptuous cushions and throws. There are sea views from four of the five bedrooms, whilst two of the bedrooms benefit from a sofa bed, meaning two extra little ones can be accommodated too. Each bedroom has a television, DAB radio and a speaker dock as well as Bramley toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities so you can enjoy a luxurious lie in.
There is a further bedroom on the lower ground floor which sleeps two and is also en suite. This is available by special request and for an additional cost.
Each of the en suite shower rooms feature a sumptuous walk in rain shower with under floor heating to ensure feet stay toasty whilst heated towel rails keep towels fluffy and warm - perfect after a day out exploring. There's an additional bathroom on the ground floor with a stunning roll top bath - utter bliss!
There's a pretty veranda situated to the side of the house, bedecked with plenty of seating and with glimpses of the sea - perfect for lazy breakfasts or whiling away an afternoon with a glass of something special in your hand. For cooler days there are heaters to keep the chill away, whilst blankets can be found in the snug so you can wrap up warm.
There's also a small patio with seating and a barbeque - ideal for a family lunch or dinner. Why not pick up some locally-caught fish from town to cook?
You'll also find lots of beach equipment for sandy escapades, including buckets and spades and chairs.
As Dorset House is in the heart of Lyme Regis, there's plenty to see and do right on your doorstep. The beaches are just a short stroll away, perfect for sunbathing, watersports or even a spot of fossil hunting. Make sure to visit the Cobb and harbour, the iconic spot made famous by The French Lieutenant's Woman. There's great places to eat too, such as Mark Hix's Oyster and Fish House which is just a few minutes' walk away.
The Jurassic Coast is just beautiful and has World Heritage Site status, so well worth exploring, as well as the super-cute villages that line the coast such as Seatown and Abbotsbury. River Cottage HQ is a ten minutes' drive away, so why not treat yourself to a cookery course? Or if you prefer the eating bit, book a table for some fantastic food.
