Waking up, you spy an osprey flying low over the loch. You catch sight of dusky-pink beds of heather climbing up the mountainside, and purple clouds scudding over the sun - all with just a lift of your head. Welcome to Hill Cottage at Croft 103 in Scotland.

We're so excited to have our first foray into Scotland, and we're especially happy to be able to share this glorious retreat, tucked away in Durness, North Sunderland with you. Honey-coloured stone, recycled materials and wood have been used to create this soft curve of a cottage. The awe-inspiring views of Eriboll, a mirror-like sea loch, and Ben Hope, the most northerly Munro sits alongside the bruised evening skies, creating a landscape to die for.
Living

Any reservation placed at Hill Cottage is provisional as we need to check availability with the owner before confirming a booking. At Hill Cottage holidays run from Saturday to Saturday

With thick floor-to-ceiling windows offering such stunning south-facing views, the interior is simple yet elegant in its reply. Soft, polished cement flooring sweeps throughout the whole property - it's also heated, making it heaven on your feet. At the centre a huge log burner makes the room extra cosy and it's orange warmth softens the room. Two plush sofas, designed for prime lounging whilst looking out the window, are complimented by carefully selected furniture and the warm wooden panelling add a slight Scandinavian feel. A state-of-the-art home entertainment system, Sky package and Wi-Fi means you'll have plenty to keep you busy when the night gets inky-black.

Eating

The sleek wood and chrome kitchen boasts stylish industrial lighting and comes fully equipped with Siemens appliances including a brushed steel fridge-freezer. The sink and worktops are gorgeous - hand finished in Caithness stone, it offers a perfect space from which to prepare a delicious supper of locally sourced seafood or beef. In the living area lies a specially-commissioned dining table, perfect for long lunches and decadent dinners - just remember to eat whilst taking in the view! There's a separate laundry too which has washing, drying and storage facilities.

Sleeping

A stunning 7ft bed, feather topped and made of lacquered steel and leather, awaits you. This room too has floor to ceiling windows, affording you amazing views as the sun rises in the morning. Thoughtfully selected bespoke furniture compliment the rest of the room such as a lovely tawny chaise lounge, stylish reading lamps and Anta tweed floor coverings.

Bathing

Leading off from the bedroom lies a stunning bathroom with a fabulous walk-in shower lined with polished Caithness stone. The finishing touches here are very special, with handmade sea-blue tiles, gorgeous fluffy towels and indulgent toiletries. There are also two baths, both designed to accommodate two people - one of which is situated outdoors on the secluded and private patio overlooking the loch, which has to qualify as one of the best bath-time views ever!

Exploring

Durness lies in the county of Sutherland on the North West tip of Great Britain. The wild remote and beautiful expanse of Cape Wrath enjoys one of the most dramatic landscapes in Europe. An abundance of wildlife and vast open space create an overwhelming experience. The village of Durness is surrounded by some of the best walking locations in the world and an endlessly fascinating environment, made for exploring.

A combination of spectacular natural features, not least the stunning coastline of towering cliffs, golden beaches backed by rugged mountains and expansive moorland have ensured our region boasts a well deserved reputation as a walkers paradise. On any given day, you may find yourself strolling along sandy beaches, spotting whales and puffins from our epic cliffs or even paying a visit to the ghost of the bearded sailor at Sandwood Bay.

Whilst Hill Cottage and its sister, Shore Cottage are reached by the same lane they are utterly private from each other.
