Off the beaten track and just a short breeze down the motorway and you can be standing on wild open moorland with the wind in your hair, the stunning Jurassic coast and the Black Mountains of Wales in the distance in this magical place. The Quantock Hide is something a bit different - a hint of a noble hunting lodge, a Himalayan garden paradise, watched over by a majestic group of 500 year old English Beech trees. A truly unique luxury retreat in Somerset.
The ground floor open plan living space welcomes you warmly the moment you step inside. From the curl-up in sofas, the wood-burner, the day bed for those afternoon siestas to the designer kitchen, the rich fabrics to the stylish furnishings - every detail speaks volumes.
Inside or out - whatever the season, even a simple meal will be a delight. The kitchen is beautifully equipped, the dining table by the wood-burner is great for winter suppers with the curtains drawn and the garden great for late breakfasts, long picnics and cocktails in the summer sunlight.
Both bedrooms have super king-sized beds, fabulous white linens and a deep sense of tranquility. The master bedroom has a roll-top bath for two - surround this with candlelight and you cannot help but be drawn into the true spirit of The Quantock Hide, especially when you duck under the eaves and climb in to your silk enshrined sumptuous cocoon of a bed. The second bedroom is very pretty, the super king-sized bed can be separated to make twins and it has an adjacent luxurious shower room.
To bathe or shower? Both are luxurious and set up to make sure that you relax after a day of therapeutic fresh air up in the hills or in the sea air along the coastal path from Kilve Beach - a striking Area of Outstanding Beauty - just a mile down the road.
The landscaped gardens at this luxury homestay in Somerset are split into three distinct 'garden rooms' all of which have breathtaking views out to sea and up through the ancient beech tree avenue. A bubbling hot tub is set on the raised terrace in perfect privacy behind the cottage and you are spoilt for choice with places to relax; laze in the covered day bed with a good book in one secluded corner, stretch out on the sun beds on the decking, take a jug of Pimms, a picnic hamper and a blanket to the upper levels or relax in the hot tub in the starlight. The garden celebrates the unique setting in style with a grassy picnic terrace, a lazy decking area beneath the trees and BBQ on the raised terrace. Due to the fact that The Quantock Hide has been honed (quite literally) from the Quantocks, the upper terraces of the garden have steep banks, so if you have highly mobile small toddlers bring a couple of extendable stair gates.
A set of steps leads down from the car parking area to the entrance of the cottage, the property is attached to the east end of the owners private stable yard. The Quantock Hide is very secluded and quiet but from your bedroom windows (which are on the 2nd floor) you may see the three horses below taking themselves off down the track to their fields.
This is one of our most dog friendly luxury properties welcoming up to three dogs and each dog guest has biscuits, water bowels and beds awaiting them! The garden is completely dog-proof so you will be able to relax knowing they are safely outside and with moorland walking literally on the doorstep this is a perfect holiday for your energetic four footed friends. There are outside hot and cold taps for muddy paws (and should you be bringing them along, even muddier mountain bikes). All of the local beaches are dog friendly year round as are the majority of the pubs in the area. The local pet-shop offers a dog food delivery service of your canine family members particular brand of food and treats and also offers pet grooming and doggie day care. We charge £30 per dog per week or short break.
The Quantock Hide has WiFi - no problem planning your outings and using Google Earth to track down the must-see hidden places in the Quantocks.
There is private parking at the entrance gate to The Quantock Hide… and then a magical path that immediately sets the scene for your stay. The vehicle approach to the property is easily navigable but it is steep. Do get in touch if you have queries about the access if you have a low slung car. There is plenty of parking space, but there are a set of garden steps to go down to reach the property.
Places to eat
Walk to a dog friendly pub in the village or head to the wonderful tea rooms on the way to the beach for a cream tea, set off on foot across the hills to the Combe House Hotel above Holford for a well deserved lunch. Further afield treat yourselves to an evening meal in the historic Luttrell Arms or the local atmosphere of the Stag Inn in medieval Dunster. If you fancy staying tucked up indoors then freshly cooked home food can be delivered to your door.
All the facilities you'd expect and some you may not...
In addition to private catering guests can also take advantage of in-cottage visits from local beauty therapists, a daily/mid-week housekeeping service can be arranged and there is a special occasions service where flowers, champagne/wine and bespoke celebration cakes can be pre-ordered.
