Out & About

With over three miles of sandy beaches and rock pools, this is one of Cornwall’s best kept secrets. Whether you’re into walking, swimming or surfing (the swell is great here), there’s plenty to do and there’s even a dive site in the shape of HMS Scylla, a frigate sunk in 2004 to form an artificial reef.

Take a browse of our luxury cottages in Whitsand Bay and let your imagination run away. Nothing will beat saying hello and waving goodbye to each day from the comforts of your own sea view retreat, met with an endless horizon of blue. As perfect for solo escapes as family holidays, this sublime corner of South Cornwall has a way of working its way into your heart for good.

If you can pull yourself away from your retreat there are some excellent places to eat in and around Whitsand Bay. Head to the View Restaurant – so-called for its breath-taking views – and sample their menu with its natural emphasis on fresh, local seafood.

For a hearty Sunday lunch the Vaults Restaurant at Whitsand Fort is a popular choice, whilst the Eddystone Cafe at Tregonhawke Beach is a great spot if you’re having a beachy day. The Canteen at Maker Heights is a very unusual veggie cafe set up in a former barracks, run by former River Cafe chef Nick – head there for an extra-special lunch.

Of course, another great option is picking up some tasty bits and bobs from Downderry’s Blue Plate Deli. With an ever-changing horizon and the mesmerising roll of waves, you can enjoy the ultimate picnic on the cliffs or return to your home from home to savour the moment surrounded by sumptuous home comforts.

A luxury holiday in Whitsand Bay, Cornwall’s forgotten corner, provides an unmissable opportunity to relax, unwind and put the focus back on the important things in life. Shirk responsibilities for a while and adopt a slower pace; there’s no better place to explore than Whitsand Bay, and no better base to return to at the end of the day than your luxury Boutique Retreat.

If you can bear to tear yourself away, there’s plenty to do in the area – make the most of Whitsand Bay’s stunning 3-mile stretch (including Tregonhawke Beach) and spend a lazy day rock pooling, swimming, exploring the caves or just sunbathing.  Being by the sea there are a plethora of water sports to keep sea lovers entertained, from surfing to kayaking to fishing.

Head to Mount Edgecumbe Country Park for 865 acres of Grade 1 listed landscape gardens – perfect to while away an afternoon, or perhaps Antony House, a picturesque 18th Century mansion. Either way, there’s a vast choice of places to visit for the culturally-minded visitor. For golf lovers, there’s a fabulous 18-hole golf course with impressive views at Whitsand Bay.
