Best for children:
Christmas at Trengwainton Garden, near Penzance, 2nd - 3rd December
Not strictly a fair but very Christmassy, this is a lovely event at the National Trusts’ Trengwainton Garden which is usually closed but opens for two nights and begins with a Lantern Walk (with flaming bamboo torches) through the gardens on both nights. The walk ends in a beautiful clearing bedecked with fairy lights where you’ll find Father Christmas (in traditional green), a hog roast and many other things to eat and drink. Kiddies can have a go at making a lantern to take home with them.
5.30pm – 8.30pm on both nights (the Lantern Walk is at 5.30pm)

Best for a traditional Cornish Christmas experience:
Fowey Christmas Market, 9th – 11th December
This gorgeous seaside town lights up with Christmas cheer over this weekend, with proceedings kicking off on Friday at 5pm with Father Christmas sailing into town by tug (well, this is Cornwall!), a lantern parade and the Christmas lights being lit. There will be plenty of stalls, goodies to eat, a Victorian market and local choirs singing their hearts out. The unique, independent shops which line the narrow streets will be open late, so you can bag yourself a Christmas present or two as well.
5.30pm – 8.30pm Friday 9th and all day Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th.
