Spread out across November and December, there are a number of superb Christmas markets to look forward to this year. Offering something for everyone, they provide the whole family with an opportunity to enjoy the run up to Christmas and take part in some good ol’ fashioned festive fun. Here are some of the best Christmas markets in Dorset and Somerset 2021: 

Bristol Christmas Markets, Somerset 

One of the most widely anticipated events in the South West, Bristol’s Christmas Markets have found far-reaching fame. Truly magical, the markets are located in the heart of the city and will take place from 5th November to 23rd December. This year will feature over 40 different crafts and gift stalls, foodie stands with everything from churros to Bratwurst, open-air bars with heated seating and lots of live entertainment. There’s even a chance to meet Santa – well, if you’ve been good. 

Glastonbury, Somerset 

Another one for the Christmas calendar is Glastonbury’s Christmas festival. Called Frost Fayre, the festival is all set for Saturday 27th November this year, ready to line the streets with Christmas lights and multi-coloured stalls selling all sorts of Christmas delights. Located around the town centre, there will be plenty to see and ample to stir up the festive feeling. 

Hestercombe Christmas Market, Somerset

From 19th to 21st November 2021, Hestercombe Christmas Market near Taunton will welcome winter-lovers with an array of Yuletide offerings. Head over and explore this thriving annual market in the heart of Somerset and peruse its festive stalls. With every stall filled with locally-sourced gifts, foodie goodies and hand-crafted gems, you are sure to find something for the Christmas list.

Dunster Festive Fayre, Somerset

If you are a fan of Christmas markets but would like to avoid the crowds, then Dunster Festive Fayre may pique your interest. Located in the quaint village of Dunster on the fringes of Exmoor National Park, this annual Christmas festival exudes the same cheer as large markets with simply less hustle and bustle. Head over on 4th – 5th December and look forward to mince pies, mulled wine and local artisan delights. 

Swanage Christmas Market, Dorset

On 4th December 2021, Swanage will host its much-loved Christmas market. Illuminating the town with Christmas lights and lending an even more magical air to this seaside town, it’s one that all generations will eagerly anticipate. As well as food stalls tempting with gastronomical treats, there will also be lots of craft and gift stalls lining the town’s streets – perfect for picking up a present or two.

Shaftesbury Christmas Fair, Dorset

The famous hilltop town of Shaftesbury will be inviting festive merrymakers of all ages to take part in its Christmas celebrations this year. Due to take place on the 19th December, Shaftesbury’s Christmas Fair will flood the town’s streets with the mouth-watering aromas of hot gluhwein, roasting chestnuts and melted chocolate. Napkin, anyone?

Cerne Abbas Christmas Street Fayre, Dorset 

Where better to celebrate Christmas this year than in this picturesque Dorset village? Usually famed for its iconic Cerne Abbas Giant, this December all eyes will instead be on its colourful Christmas market, due to take place on Saturday 4th. Held along Long Street, the market will showcase locally-produced goods, from beautiful Christmas stocking fillers and presents to delicious hot food and drink.

Bournemouth Christmas Market, Dorset

One of the largest Christmas markets in the West Country, Bournemouth’s Christmas Market and Christmas Tree Wonderland are always really popular. Spanning the whole festive season from 19th November to 2nd January, the event provides Christmas revellers with plenty of opportunity to celebrate. Skate at the snow dome, wander through a hundred glittering Christmas trees at Christmas Tree Wonderland and satisfy your cravings at the Alpine Market.
