Scarlet Wines and The Vineyard Table, near St. Ives

The team at Scarlet Wines offer really good food paired with the perfect vino accompaniment (one would expect nothing less of an expert winery). Whilst their usual menu is very enjoyable and definitely requires roomy pants for optimum eating, it is seriously worth going to one of their themed supper evenings, or booking in for an epic Sunday lunch.

Sundays are really the best of days, they allow for gluttonous eating and chasing of each meal with a good glass of port.

Scarlet Wines is tucked away in Lelant, just on the way in to St Ives, and really it is in a bit of a funny spot… Nevertheless it is a must-visit for stocking up your wine cellar, cramming your larder full of artisan charcuterie, cheese and other locally sourced goodies, and as a destination for excellent breakfast/ lunch/ supper fodder.

Scarlet Wines is owned by a lovely gent called Jon Keast and he has seriously got the recipe right with his food offering. The Vineyard Table is a stable conversion tacked on to the wine shop, it is very cosy, packed full of charm – and a luxurious log fire for chilly days.

Sundays are really the best of days, they allow for gluttonous eating and chasing of each meal with a good glass of port. Scarlet Wines also do a proper ‘homemade’ style Sunday lunch. Roast with all the trimmings and a stylish touch that you don’t bother with at home. (Roast apple with pork and cracking is a prime example).

The general seasonal menu has a Mediterranean vibe – really fresh and lots of great tastes to sample. Think skewers of lush marinated meats, cured fish, rustic pastas, big stews and massive platters of cheeses and charcuterie cool.

The desserts are worth saving room for (or just loosening the belt…), tuck in to Spiced carrot, pistachio & almond cake, Pomegranate, vanilla & almond sponge pudding, Orange & elderflower crème brulee or Strawberry & rosewater orange blossom shortbread. Mouthwatering, no?

And lastly, if that wasn’t enough to engender a visit… coffee and cake. A somewhat afternoon tradition that again Scarlet Wines comes up trumps with. Sourcing their coffee from caffeine connoisseurs Origin Coffee, based in Helston, and making all cakes lovingly by hand you could almost spend an entire day in this little haven in no-mans-land.
