Stepping into Roger’s Fresh Fish & deli is like walking into Brittany, not least because Patrice is French and has brought all the best bits of a Breton market to this corner deli in the middle of Chipping Norton.
It is, of course, a fact that it is incredibly difficult to get fresh fish in Chipping Norton – nigh on impossible according to Patrice who promptly set up his fish counter stocking with an abundance of delicious fish, shellfish and samphire. It is perfect for stocking your larder whilst staying locally. The fish is uber delicious and comes from bustling Birmingham market very early in the morning.
Don’t be nervous about getting proper fish from the fishmongers. Patrice used to be a chef – he has a wealth of knowledge that is just waiting for you to draw out some top tips!
Far from just offering a fishy for your little dishy, there is a counter choc-full of cheese (perfectly Provence, oozey, smelly and utterly divine), and another stacked with homemade pies and quiches.
This is a little haven for those who are gluten free, with the deli stocking lots of gluten-gone goodies. There are flours, and baking kits if you want to don the apron and oven gloves and get baking up a storm. For those less ‘hands-on’ Patrice has a range of homemade gluten-free gubbins that are ready for snacking.
Roger’s Fresh Fish & Deli is open from Tuesday – Saturday (Monday is market day!)
