If you’re kicking about in Newquay and thinking to yourself, a visit to Porth Beach might be on the cards, but we can’t possibly go yet because we are utterly famished then think about a visit to the Pantry. It’s a take-away deli, somewhat unattractively attached to a petrol station (always handy though to top up on fuel at the same time) but it is well worth acquainting yourself with.
The Pantry is choc-full of delicious Cornish goodies. A veritable larder of unctuous deliciousness including, but not limited to; gluten free snacks, store cupboard necessities, biscuits, olives, homemade cakes, coffee and chocolate. For lunch they have a salad counter for proper tummy-filling salads (no namby pamby iceberg here) jacket potatoes and my personal favourite: GIANT paninis. The BBQ chicken and cheese panini with a packet of lobster flavour crisps is the champion lunch du jour. Add to that a red velvet cupcake, and what can I say? A winning picnic to take down the road to Porth beach.
If you’re staying locally, it is a really good place to discover and just stock up on good cooking/ meal prep ingredients. All the produce is from local artisan producers, is uber fresh and very tasty. The Pantry is a prime example of the old adage: don’t judge a book by its cover.
