Possibly one of the tiniest coffee houses I’ve ever come across –that isn’t a takeaway anyway – is the Jam Jar Café, Newquay. Run by the gorgeous Jess – surfer and passionate baker – this is the best place to grab a proper cup of Joe in Newquay town.
Using Origin Coffee coupled with barista intelligence and a coffee obsessive attention to brewing, the jam-jar served cappuccinos are a caffeine shot of heaven perched just about Fistral Beach.
The boutique style terrace and ‘cosy’ interiors are surfer-chic, and really stylish. There are jars of delicious looking stuff (from raw cacao to coconut oil) lining the shelves and a fresh batch of homemade brownies generally sits temptingly on the counter.

Jess is a good baker. Mixing raw food and creative healthy treats with properly naughty cakes and cookies alongside a fresh daily menu of filled bagels (avocado and chilli is the ultimate winner) the food options are short but sweet.
She also offers gluten-free options, dairy-free goodies and does a mean raw hot chocolate which will certainly satisfy a post-surf/ beach dog walk sugar-lust.
If it’s sunny grab a seat on the wooden terrace and watch the beach below – dogs are also welcome (dog biscuits and water on offer). One useful thing to remember is that there isn’t a card machine – currently, although there is a handy cash point across the road!
