Holywell Bay, Cornwall

Holywell Bay, Cornwall

Featured in Poldark, this stunning beach is perfect for lazy beach days in the summer, wild blustery walks in winter and super-romantic sunset watching with that special someone.

Located on the north Cornish coast between Holywell and Crantock, Holywell Bay is exceptionally large so there’s plenty of space to be had whether it’s high or low tide.

At low tide, an amble along the sand with your dog is just lovely (it’s dog friendly all year), whilst families can set up for the day with blankets and a picnic, and little ones can enjoy the sea or explore the stream that runs through it. There’s an old wreck just offshore which can be seen at low tide - the remains of an Argentinean coaster – which lends real atmosphere, whilst Holywell Cave is well worth exploring.

At high tide, nestle down in the super soft dunes (some reach up to 60 feet) with a good book or a picnic and maybe fly a kite. Oh, and it’s a particularly romantic spot to watch the sun set.

As it’s owned by the National Trust, the beach is very well maintained and has a car park (which is free if you’re a National Trust member).
