Purbeck Vineyard, Dorset

Near the village of Corfe, Purbeck Vineyard is situated in an idyllic spot handily close to the Swanage Steam Railway. The vineyard, opened in 2010, has approximately 3,000 vines ranging from the well-known Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to English grapes such as Regent, Rondo and Phoenix.

It’s hard not to feel proud when British vineyards start up and stand up alongside our cousins on the continent. With names such as ‘Studland Ruby’ (a Pinot Noir) and ‘Kimmeridge Mist’ (a blend of Chardonnay, Phoenix and Seyval Blanc), this vineyard is clearly proud of its (vine) roots.

The grapes are harvested then pressed and processed into wine on site – during the season you can book a tour, whilst in autumn you can even join the local villagers who all help out with the grape harvest. Chin chin!
