Miserden Garden, Stroud

Miserden Garden, Stroud

With over 850 acres to experience and explore, Miserden is a gorgeous rural estate found in an area of outstanding natural beauty deep in the Cotswolds. Made up of woodland, farmland and pretty gardens, you can lose yourself in peace and tranquillity at this wonderful estate.

Step into Miserden and be greeted by breath-taking views over the Golden Valley as you explore the beautiful pleasure grounds. This estate is a sanctuary and home for wildlife to flourish in its natural environment; historically Miserden was made up of the garden, farmlands and forestry but in recent years there have been a few more additions including the popular Nursery.

The garden was original designed in the 17th century and offers views over the deer park and rolling hillside. One of the most notable parts of this divine garden is its topiary yew walk which boasts a range of lovely plants from roses to clematis which create rays of colour throughout Spring and Autumn. Explore the gardens to spot the ancient mulberry tree, the bubbling fountain, the enchanting stone summer house and many more charming delights.

As well as the gardens, you also have the joy of a variety of walks in this oasis of leisure. The official website provides several guides and recommendations for walks around the estate and grounds for a range of abilities and times. For hikers, we highly recommend The Farm Walk, a bit more rural and wild, this walk lasts over and hour and a half and offers rarely seen vistas of some of the most beautiful scenery in Britain. For shorter and gentler walks, you can enjoy the ambles around the lake and the woodland; less than an hour long and just as beautiful.

If you’re feeling inspired by the gardens, you can purchase your own at the independent nursery where you will find the on-site café inside a pretty Edwardian greenhouse. Whether you want to huddle away from the rain with a hot coffee or enjoy a drink in the summer under a parasol, the café is an ideal way to relax after a long walk or to take a break in between shopping. The Café is also the home to the new Pop-Up Restaurants – working with local and top chefs, there’s always an exciting menu and event happening.

For gardening enthusiasts, nature photographers and beauty-seekers, you and your family can enjoy the perfect day out in the Cotswolds at Miserden Garden near Stroud.
