The Rockfish, Dartmouth

The first of the Rockfish restaurants, the Rockfish Dartmouth opened its doors in 2010 and enjoys pride of place overlooking the River Dart. Flaunting a vibrant, turquoise-hued façade and rough-luxe interiors, this place has “welcome” written all over it. Pop in to see what all the fuss is about and browse the well-curated menus for your chow of choice throughout the year; think al fresco dining in summer and warming wood burner in winter.

Inherently intertwined with the sea, the Rockfish specialises in serving sustainably sourced seafood. Hand-selecting the highest quality catch each day from the local fish market, the restaurant’s fish is prepared on the harbourside by expert fishmongers and delivered straight to the restaurant each morning. For fresh, local cuisine, it doesn’t get better than this.

Featuring all the classics you would hope for, the menu comprises the all-time favourites of dressed crab, slurp-able oysters, delicious prawns and, naturally, traditional fish and chips. These are also complemented by the daily specials offered to you by your waiter, cooked to preference, along with guidance on the best choice for each one, be it chargrilled, roasted or crisp fried.

To wash down your meal, the Rockfish has a carefully thought out drinks list, including wines and beers chosen to perfectly balance and complement the flavours of your starter, main and dessert. Round off your savoury course with a sweet treat and let yourself relax whole-heartedly into a blissful food-fade before slipping home to unwind in your luxury home-from-home.

If you would like to book yourself a table, the Rockfish restaurant has 90 covers and an upstairs dining area, named the Chart Room, that can be hired out for private celebrations. For food on the go, they also have a takeaway located at the top of the ramp by the Lower Ferry, serving the same fantastic food which can be enjoyed in Bayards cove, on a picnic bench overlooking the river or from the comfort of home.
