Broadway Museum and Art Gallery

Broadway Museum and Art Gallery

Tudor House, the home of Broadway Museum and Art Gallery, was built as a coaching inn for the Ludlow to London route in the 17th century. Its many guises since have included life as a farmstead, private residence and antique furniture dealer’s, until it was recently transformed into a museum.

Step inside Broadway Museum and Art Gallery to discover that many of this beautiful Cotswold stone building’s original features still remain in tact. The displays convey the story of Broadway village and how it began to flourish as a result of the wool trade, before becoming popular with visiting artists and tourists.

Working in partnership with Oxford’s famous Ashmolean Museum, Broadway Museum’s collections include paintings, porcelain and artefacts as well as furniture pieces from Keil’s (a renowned dealer in antique furniture, who once occupied the building).

Don’t miss the work of the acclaimed artist Willard Wigan MBE who features in the Guinness Book of World Records for producing the world’s smallest artworks. Stemming from a passion for making tiny pieces of furniture for ants as a child, some of the micro-sculptures he now produces are invisible to the naked eye and are therefore intriguingly displayed through microscopes.

There is a rotating selection of exhibitions throughout the year and local artists display their work from their studios at the top of the building. The Artist Colony gallery features work by artists inspired by the beautiful village of Broadway and its surrounding rural landscapes.

Whilst in Broadway, there are plenty of lovely pubs, cafes and galleries to explore. We recommend a visit to the Lygon Arms for lunch or afternoon tea.

The Broadway Museum & Art Gallery opens from February until Christmas. Check their website for opening times and admission charges.
