The archaeology behind this estate is regarded as one of the most important historic gardens in Europe, deliciously atmospheric and a treat for the senses. If you’re feeling adventurous, explore the surrounding woodland and untouched natural landscape for a journey of mystery and tranquillity. The land’s history involved following many years of mining, leaving an intriguing and indelible impression on the area's natural landscapes. Amble alongside the river for a serene wander or explore the remains of the Godolphin family mine, the historic Leeds engine house and stack. With over 6 miles of footpaths to meander, you can ramble through the surrounding countryside at your leisure. Take on the Godolphin Hill walk with a wander to the top of Godolphin Hill and you’ll find stunning views over West Cornwall. On a clear day, you will be able to admire views across St Michael’s Mount and St Ives Bay.

Godolphin house was deemed one of the most stylish estates in 17th Century Cornwall; roam its antique corridors and lofty chambers to soak up the romance of this prestigious country house. The house itself is only open on the first week of every month, so be sure to check online before making your trip. The property is currently available for private rental, so should you be inspired to throw a Gatsby-esque gathering or host a private event you can escape to this grand getaway. Find out more about the folklore surrounding the estate; rumour has it, giants once roamed the surrounding countryside and immense battles took place!

Indulge in sweet treats, homemade cakes and delicious sandwiches at The Piggery tea-room, with picnic blankets available for you to borrow, or take a picnic in the orchard on a dreamy autumn afternoon. The grounds provide an enchanting setting for lunch al fresco, surrounded by mystical woodland and the grand Godolphin house as a charming backdrop. There are several historic outbuildings to discover surrounding the grounds, which also provide informative details on the history of the property.

All outside areas welcome your furry friends on leads, so you can discover the idyllic woodland and historic estate grounds together. The estate is extremely family friendly, so your kiddies can get back to nature with a barefoot trail and outdoor mud pie kitchen. Your little ones can create enchanting childhood memories at Godolphin House; they’ll adore taking part in the ’50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ which offers an array of entertaining activities for children. Encourage their green fingers with a visit to the potting shed for some therapeutic colouring in and gardening puzzles.

Discover the manor gardens, with thoughtfully planted wildflowers to attract bees and butterflies - the inside garden paddock even houses Native black beehives. You can take home a jar of their golden nectar for your own pleasure - simply pop into the gift shop for some of the busy bees’ honey. The King’s Garden is particularly tranquil with an array of floral delights, take a seat on one of the bespoke benches and daydream the afternoon away.
