Cogges

Cogges

An historic farmstead in the heart of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, Cogges offers an interactive day out for all the family amongst stunning tree-flecked countryside.
Especially popular amongst mini adventurers, Cogges provides a fantastic day out for all the family. Adopting a hands-on approach to farming and fare, it encourages visitors to get stuck in and discover what food and its production is all about, both historically and today.

Dating back to the 10th century, Cogges Manor (a Scheduled Ancient Monument) and its surrounding land is full of history. Predating many of its beautiful Cotswolds cousins, it’s impossible not to get a sense of the site’s impressive heritage, still baring many of its period features today. Perhaps one of the most striking, the seat of the first manor house is surrounded by a Norman moat and has today been transformed into the location of a superb timber adventure fort and children’s playground.

If you can manage to steer your youngsters away from the play areas to begin with, Cogges has loads of things to see and do. Home to over 15 acres of farmyard and grounds, you will all be kept entertained for hours exploring. Brought to life with the daily to-ings and fro-ings of the farm, the farmyard will be made even more exciting for children with the addition of many furry and feathered residents, including little guinea pigs, chickens and goats.

Say hello to the animals, see the classical walled garden, wander the family-friendly trails and take part in the displays, activities and tours that explain how the site has developed since the Saxon times. As you go, relish the fresh air and savour the beautiful views – if some look familiar to you, you may well recognise them as the filming location of Mr Drewe’s home on Downton Abbey!

Once you have explored as much as you can and the kids have burnt off their energy on the play areas, head over to the farm’s café – a welcome sanctuary whatever the weather. Situated in the Old Milking Parlour, the Cogges Kitchen serves fresh coffee roasted in Witney, homemade scones and cakes, ice cream and light lunches. Also providing a children’s menu and serving vegan and gluten-free cake, there will be something for everyone to tuck into.
