Set within a beautiful 13th century country pub, the Mason Arms in Knowstone achieved a Michelin Star just six months after opening. Having retained its coveted accolade for over 15 years, the restaurant has rightly earned itself a place amongst the greats and will be hard to resist during a stay in Devon.
Run by Mark and Sarah Dodson, the culinary vision of the Mason Arms has been hugely influenced by Mark, who is also the restaurant’s Head Chef. With four decades in the industry and a starry career behind him, Mark’s innate talent and focus on local produce are the perfect combination. Sourcing the finest local goods from the surrounding countryside to create exceptional cuisine, the quality of Mark’s food really does speak for itself.

Yet more than just a place to eat, part of the Mason Arm’s winning appeal is its homely feel. Very much a local pub at heart, its askew ceilings, exposed beams, open fireplace and country views add to its authentic air and create a lovely space to congregate. From sitting in the pub’s cosy lounge with an aperitif to chatting at the bar to taking a seat in the bright dining room for the main event, you will enjoy an infectiously relaxed atmosphere throughout.
Once you are ready to peruse the menus, you can choose from a finely tuned assortment paired with the seasons. Served from 12 to 2pm, the lunch menu is served alongside an à la carte menu, while later another à la carte dinner menu is served between 7 and 9pm. As perfect for a romantic dinner date as a hearty winter warmer, you can also make the most of the restaurant’s carvery offerings, with a delicious roast served on Sundays.

If you would like to try and replicate some of your favourite dishes at home, it is worth keeping an eye on the pub’s events, which include Masterclasses run by Mark. With both private and group sessions available, the sessions last for 1.5 hours and are followed by a 3-course lunch based around the day’s topic, served with a glass of wine!
