A beach house in the truest sense, this wonderful homestay for eight is set right on the edge of the golden sands at Cawsand, on the stunning southern Cornish coast. Sleek and modern in design, this is a laid-back yet beautiful retreat, perfect for families or friends wishing to stay together, or even couples seeking extra space to spread out.
From unadulterated sea views to four en suite bedrooms, the state-of-the-art kitchen to the open-plan living space, this is a wonderful escape from the modern world, and from the moment you step inside the elevator from the private garage to take you up to your seaside abode, all of your everyday worries will be left behind.
Set in the hidden corner of south-east Cornwall, Cawsand is a pretty seaside village with plenty to do. Whether it's a daily swim (toes will be wet within a minute's stroll from the door), exploring the Rame Peninsula along the South West Coastal Path that starts behind the building, taking a ferry across to Plymouth from the beach, taking a Segway tour of Mount Edgecombe or driving along the dramatic coast road to Looe, there's plenty to see and do.
Living and eating
The beautiful open plan living, kitchen and dining area makes this astonishing retreat just perfect for get-togethers. To the front lies the sitting area, complete with Bo Concept corner sofa, two armchairs and a Samsung Frame TV with Sky Q. There's also a study nook with iMac computer, should you need to catch up on work (and if you can drag yourself away from that view!).
To the right of the living space there are bi-fold glass doors that lead out on to the balcony. As well as those incredible views, the windows let me plenty of light making this a bright, airy space. Head to the balcony and while away the hours watching the tide retreat and advance, with a glass or two of something extra special in hand.
Lying directly in front of the bi-fold doors is the fabulous dining table, the perfect spot for dinner parties and lazy lunches. During warm weather, have the windows open to let the sea breeze in, whilst in cooler weather keep cosily shut, and watch in awe as the stormy seas provide a dramatic, living backdrop to mealtimes.
At the back of the room lies the gorgeously modern kitchen, gleamingly white and fully equipped with Miele appliances such as an induction hob, electric oven, dishwasher, microwave combi oven, fridge, freezer and the all-important wine cooler! There's also a Quooker instant hot water tap and the all-important Nespresso coffee machine and a breakfast bar for on-the-go snacks, or simply to sit and watch the chef at work.
In addition, there's a separate utility room which is home to a washing machine, tumble dryer and space to dry wetsuits.
Sleeping and bathing
There are four lovely bedrooms to choose from.
Take the stairs up and you'll discover the stunning en suite master bedroom with high, vaulted ceiling and huge windows with incredible sea views that'll take your breath away. For sleeping, there's a gorgeously comfy queen-size bed to fall into at the end of a busy day exploring, where you can fall asleep to the sound of the waves and wake to the sun rising over the water, to be gazed at from the comfort of your bed - bliss! In addition, there are two occasional chairs for lounging, a chest of drawers, Sonos speakers and a Samsung Frame TV and Velux windows which have remote-controlled blinds. The en suite is a fabulous shower room. A feature Jo Downes art installation completes this room which is an escape within a retreat!
The three further bedrooms can be found on the ground floor and all have underfloor heating. Lying to the front of the house with exquisite sea views is the second bedroom, also with a queen-sized bed. This has a chest of drawers, two occasional chairs, remote-controlled blinds, and a Samsung Smart TV, whilst the en suite boasts a lavishly large walk-in shower. Perfectly private, this is a wonderful spot where you can watch fishing boats pootle past in the morning whilst enjoying a wake-me-up coffee in bed.
The spacious third en suite bedroom, tucked quietly at the back, has the benefit of having a zip-and-link bed meaning it can be set up as either a super king size bed or twins. In addition, there's a chest of drawers, occasional chair, Samsung Smart TV and an en suite bathroom with shower overhead.
The fourth bedroom is super cute and perfect for little ones, with custom bunk beds and stairs linking the two. See if you can find all the secret storage built into the stairs and under the lower bed! There's a Samsung Smart TV too, complete with a PlayStation 4 and games. The en suite shower room has jack and jill doors, meaning it can be accessed from the hallway too.
All the beds come deliciously swathed in Egyptian cotton linen, hypoallergenic bedding and luxurious throws and cushions to ensure a blissful nights' sleep. All of the en suites have heated rails to ensure towels are kept warm and fluffy.
Outside space
To the front a fabulous balcony awaits, overhanging the beach below. Here you'll find a coffee table and chairs to while away a lazy afternoon, whilst to the back of the property you'll find another balcony, the perfect spot to catch the last of the evening sunshine with an aperitif in hand. Of course, you're just steps from the beach - you can have wet toes within a minute from the door - and with beach towels provided, an early morning swim is just what the doctor ordered!
