The rough Cornish stone exterior of this lovely retreat belies a peaceful, light interior, ready to welcome you in. As soon as you walk through the door, the clean white walls, soft wooden flooring and beamed vaulted ceilings await, accentuated with dashes of citrussy oranges and the palest of blues. The overall feel of this pad is a calm oasis, but with a light, frolicsome side, brought out by the pretty, fun decor. It's the perfect mix of rustic charm and contemporary chic.
Living and eating

The open-plan living, dining and kitchen area forms the heart of this lovely home, and is a brilliant space for chilling out and admiring the uninterrupted view across rolling fields to the Atlantic beyond. With floor-to-ceiling glass doors, light floods in and provides a stunning vista whilst sitting on the beautiful, dusky blue velvet sofa. In summer months, pull back the doors and let the soft sea breeze waft in, whilst in cooler months, curl up in front of the toasty wood burning stove with your favourite novel or film.

The fabulous kitchen, extremely spacious for two, has everything you need to magic up a romantic meal. With an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine and milk frother, plus a host of other appliances, you're all set up to cook a feast. Meanwhile, the washing machine is hidden away in a separate utility room.

There's a breakfast bar for meals on the go (or if you like to chat whilst cooking), and also a separate table for two, set between the kitchen and living area.

Sleeping

The pretty en suite bedroom boasts a stunning king-sized bed, adorned with crisp cotton linens and super soft feather bedding. It's the perfect haven for escaping to at the end of your busy day. Lay back and appreciate the complete peace and quiet of the countryside, ensuring a blissful night's sleep. The sea views from your bed are just wonderful to wake up to in the morning - a good reason to stay there just a little bit longer, we reckon.

Bathing

We just adore the fabulous freestanding bathtub for two, set right by the window so you can make the most of the sea views. After a day spent surfing the Cornish waves, stomping the coastal path or just devouring cream teas, head back to The Lookout and enjoy a steamy soak with a glass of something sparkly in hand. If showers are more your thing, the monsoon shower is a perfect way to wake up in the morning. Your fluffy White Company towels are kept toasty warm by the heated towel rails - and your toes will be too, with under floor heating.

Outdoor Space

There's plenty of outdoor space at The Lookout. The sunny patio area, complete with barbeque, is the perfect spot for alfresco dining, or just lounging in the sun, soaking up the spectacular view. We love the fire pit too. Summer evenings are best spent watching the sun dip below the ocean, whilst the local barn owl dives down into the field for his final catch of the day.

Baby friendly

Babes in arms are welcome at The Lookout. Please call to book in a baby.

Dogs

One well-behaved dog, aged 12 months or over, is very welcome at The Lookout. There's a whole enclosed private field in front of The Lookout, ideal for your four-legged friend - and there's also a doggie bath, with hot and cold running water, for muddy days. We charge £30 per dog per week or short break.

WiFi

The Lookout has WiFi should you need to stay in contact with the outside world.

Parking

The private parking area for The Lookout is gated and at the front of the property.

In the Area

The Lookout is situated in the sleepy, farming hamlet of Treligga, which is a real hidden gem in itself, full of pretty, traditional stone cottages and a haven of tranquillity. It's the perfect base from which to explore the rest of Cornwall. The idyllic ancient fishing village of Port Isaac is four miles away. Nearby Port Gaverne is another stunning little inlet, and the perfect swimming and/or picnic spot. Within 30 minutes you can be in Rock, Padstow, Boscastle and Tintagel and yet the likes of St Ives, Falmouth, Newquay and Penzance are also easily accessible.

Walks along the coastal path are a must from The Lookout, as this area of North Cornwall is unsurpassed in its dramatic beauty. There are numerous beaches and coves to explore not far from the doorstep, bringing plenty of opportunities for surfing, sea swimming or even kayaking. The closest beaches are Trebarwith and Tregardock, both of which are within walking distance, through fields and along the spectacular cliff edge. Polzeath, well known for its surfing, is 20 minutes' drive.

Foodies are spoilt for choice, with numerous great restaurants and gastro-pubs close by, such as the St Kew Inn, the St Tudy Inn, the Waterfront Cafe at Polzeath and the Mariners and the Blue Tomato in Rock. Nathan Outlaw has several restaurants in Port Isaac, two of which are Michelin-starred. Jamie Oliver, Paul Ainsworth and Rick Stein also have various wonderful eateries scattered throughout the nearby coastal towns.

Golfers can play at the prestigious St Enodoc golf course or nearby Bowood Park. For garden lovers, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Eden Project and further south, Glendurgan and Trebah are all worth a visit.

Reviews

'Second stay here at 'The Lookout' - pure peace and quiet, all you hear is sheep and cows, stunning views out to sea and watching the sun set into the horizon. The comments book in the retreat says it all... such high quality, everything you could need is thought of. The owners Sam & Chris are only too happy to help if you should need anything. The welcome hamper is lovely with carefully chosen local goods. Soaking in the huge bathtub, gazing out of the window, totally private is a real wow. We will certainly have to go again.' - June 2019
