Nestled on the stunning Roseland Peninsula on the South Cornish coast in the pretty hamlet of Treworthal, this wonderful Grade II listed semi-detached thatched retreat offers a warm welcome for single travellers or couples with surprisingly modern interiors twinned sympathetically with a host of original features such as the grand stone fireplace, wood burner and beamed ceilings. With so much to see right on your doorstep such as the protected coves and beaches and the seaside villages of Portscatho, St Mawes and Portloe, this home stay promises to be the quintessential Cornish escape and is dog friendly too.

Living

The pretty sitting room boasts a large wood burner, making it the perfect spot for curling up in the evening on the comfy sofa or leather occasional chair. With whitewashed walls, dark wood floors, beamed ceiling and dual-aspect windows overlooking the surrounding countryside, it's classically country-chic, but with pops of bright colour throughout, it cleverly draws the space into modern day living. We just love the exposed stone fireplace and the copper coffee table.

Eating

The small, country kitchen is oh-so-stylish with cabinets in shades of grey and marble worktops and offers everything you'll need to rustle up meals including an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer, plus the essential Nespresso coffee machine just in case you can't start your day without a caffeine kick.

Sleeping

Climb the stairs to your night-time boudoir where you'll find a Moroccan inspired super-king bed swathed in rich, luxurious linens, an eye-catching Anthropologie quilt and a plethora of cushions, creating the ultimate love nest so cosy you'll never want to get up! Decorated in clean whites and with pretty countryside views and plenty of cupboard space, it's both beautiful and practical.

Bathing

The downstairs bathroom benefits from a deep tub with overhead rainfall shower, underfloor heating to keep toes toasty warm and a heated rail to ensure towels are kept warm and fluffy.

Garden

The cottage garden, surrounded by rolling green countryside, is a lovely spot to while away a sunny afternoon or two. There's a raised patio with a table, chairs for alfresco meals nicely protected by the traditional Cornish stone wall. In the main garden, dotted with flower beds and pretty hedging, there's an attractive pergola with further seating, further patio area and a gas barbeque plus sun loungers.

Parking

There is private parking for one car at Sophie's Cottage.

A babe in arms is welcome at Sophie's Cottage and a highchair and cot are available on request.

Well and truly established on the global culinary map, Cornwall is a stronghold for illustrious chefs and keen-nosed foodies - here we give you some of the best eateries you might not have heard of...

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Sophie's Cottage:

A great Easter break, the cotttage exceeded our expectations.

It was all really wonderful.. the whole cottage was so welcoming. The interior was done beautifully.. the location was fantastic for the beaches and to explore Cornwall. A perfect little bolthole to escape too.

Cosy thatched cottage on a sleepy Cornish lane. Silence bar the mooing of the cows in a neighbouring field, and apple juice and jam for sale from their farmer. We loved it. This cottage wants for nothing - Nespresso machine, teapot with cosy, eclectic jumble of books, picnic basket, picnic rugs, even a straw sun hat! A wonderful place to spend a romantic week.

Beautiful cottage, amazing views. Had everything you need for a holiday cottage. Would recommend, & also stay at this property in the future. Thank you.

Beautiful cottage in a perfect location.

A delightful cottage, with a lovely garden, that provided everything we needed. Can think of nothing to complain about!

Lovely as always! This is the third year that we've stayed at Sophie's, and it didn't disappoint. We love the location, the garden, and how comfortable the cottage is.

This was an absolutely fabulous well decorated cosy cottage in a great location. We loved it!

Small but really stylishly decorated. We would recommend for a short stay.

Lovely, very peaceful and relaxing break. Wonderful comfortable interior, super comfy bed and sofa- a wonderful home and location. Can’t wait to go again!

Absolutely wonderful once again - this was our second time visiting Sophie’s. We love the location - so quiet, and yet near the sea and a great pub) the garden, and the house. Everything is perfectly comfortable and it’s the perfect retreat from the world. We’ll be back again!

Sophie's cottage is really well furnished and fully equipped for for a relaxing holiday. The garden at the side of the property is a wonderful little oasis to return to after a day walking on the coastal path and in the evening all the TV and SONOS stuff worked fine if you fancy a quiet night in. The Roseland Inn is about a mile up the road and there's lots of other pubs and restaurants in the nearby area.

What an utterly charming cottage which is impeccably decorated. A very relaxing, comfortable and homely stay. Thank you for the scrumptious treats that were left waiting for us, the homemade ginger cake was delicious.

'Thank you for the most wonderful holiday "Sophie" you ticked all the boxes. Cornwall you are so beautiful. Perfect English holiday.' - August 2021

'We decided to book Sophie's Cottage after our original honeymoon to Tanzania was cancelled, and despite it not being the original plan, we have had the most wonderful time. The cottage is cosy and homely and provided us with a quiet haven after the stress of wedding planning - it was just what we needed! We are taking away memories we will treasure forever.' - July 2021

'We've had a super stay in this fabulous cottage! We were blessed with sunny weather so have spent most evenings in the beautiful gardens. The cottage is so stylish and comfortable, with everything we could need. We hope to return!' - July 2021

'I can only describe our stay as fantastic! We have thoroughly enjoyed our holiday - I wish we had booked 2 weeks! This is our 2nd holiday to Cornwall, our first over 30 years ago, why didn't we come back sooner? Thank you for sharing your cottage with us, we feel very privileged and have wanted for nothing. We sat out last night, listened to the silence, watched the stars, wow, what a way to celebrate 35 years of marriage, fantastic! We can't wait to return.' - July 2021

'Another wonderful stay at Sophie's Cottage - so relaxing, quiet and idyllic. The weather so much better than expected 5/6 days sunny. Loved the table spot you have for breakfasting. Roseland Inn at Philleigh, lovely pub that we crossed fields to reach to save time (path is clear!) - we saw a strawberry moon on our return in the dark over the fields - quite a giggle. Standout walk - admittedly a little strenuous - was Caerhays Castle car park to Gorran Haven over the coastal path. Just breath-taking. We hope to come back again - just love the place, its surroundings, and the peace. Hope future guests enjoy as much.' - June 2021

'Fabulous cottage for a few nights away. Thank you for such lovely accommodation.' - June 2021

'Sophie's Cottage - A beautifully appointed cottage in idyllic setting. Meandering single track lanes make this a very quiet location to spend 7 nights away from it all! Our stay was the most relaxing and luxurious experience. The cottage was clean, very well equipped, and beautifully decorated. There was a hamper on our arrival with lots of goodies for us to enjoy which was a lovely finishing touch. We highly recommend the Roseland Pub, (walking distance through fields) and take away pizza at Sam's on the Roseland. Thank you so much and for the wall-to-wall sunshine.' - May 2021

'After 4 months of lockdown in London, our stay in Sophie's Cottage was idyllic. We loved exploring the area with long coastal walks and trips to Trelissick Gardens and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. The highlight was walking across the field to the Roseland pub - our first visit to a pub! Thank you for such a comfortable stay.' - April 2021

'After months of lockdown this is paradise - but it would be in any case! What a lovely, cosy haven and so stylish - we have enjoyed it immensely. And we have fallen in love with the Roseland Peninsula - amazing walks!' - April 2021

'Thank you so much for our stay in your glorious cottage! This was my first trip to Cornwall and I am in love! The cottage is perfect - the decor is amazing and the kitchen is the most well-stocked ever. Highlights were swimming at Pendower beach and a divine lunch at the Hidden Hut. We loved it - thank you' - December 2020

'Wow, that a fantastic week we have had! This was our first ever trip to Cornwall, and we have fallen in love. The cottage is just beautiful and so peaceful, such a great location! The weather has been fantastic, 20+ degrees all week, we have been very lucky. This is our first trip away this year, two of our abroad holidays were cancelled due to Covid-19 and we just needed to get away for a change of scenery and this was just absolutely perfect - thank you!' - July 2020
