A super little thatched cottage, 3 Whitewalls lies within the picturesque village of Mithian and is just a minute's walk from an excellent 16th century country pub. Grade II listed and one-up, three-down, this romantic retreat is beautifully styled - the owner's eclectic taste and attention to detail is reflected throughout. Being such an old property, the ceilings and doorways are quite low and the bedroom is accessed by steep ladder-style stairs - a very unique retreat!
Living

The lovely little living area with exposed beams is super-cosy with a soft leather Old Boot sofa - perfect for cosying up on in front of the coal fire, over which hangs two Cox and Cox mirrors. If you're after a film night in, there's a SMART TV all set up for you. Tucked away in the corner you'll find a sweet little dining table and chairs pour deux.

Eating

The cute kitchen lies at the back of this bijoux retreat and has all the budding chef needs to create a feast for their loved one. With warm wooden surfaces, deep butler's sink, flagged flooring and cream metro tiles, it's beautifully designed - we love the cheese-grater lights, ROK coffee machine and the vintage bits and pieces. As well as a conductor hob and electric oven, the dishwasher and fridge are tucked away behind the cabinets.

Sleeping

Up the very steep ladder-style stairs you'll find a beautiful bedroom tucked away in the eaves. A comfy Loaf bed with Vi-Spring mattress awaits you complete with White Company linen, throws and cushions as well as a refurbished Ercol chair and extra plush Brink & Campman 'Rocks' rug over glossy dark polished wooden floors. We love this addition to the bedroom - (and think every retreat should have one) - alongside the bed you'll find a record player with a wide selection of LPs to play - our favourites are the sing-a-long with Max Bygraves or a bit of Frank Sinatra! A cute walk-in wardrobe is tucked away in the corner of the room, complete with robes and slippers.

Bathing

You'll find the wet room just off of the kitchen. With under-floor heating, a copper Jam Pan sink, Molton Brown toiletries and fluffy White Company towels, you have everything to hand after a day of exploring the lovely north Cornish coastline.

Outside space

There's a charming enclosed sun trap courtyard at the rear of the cottage, complete with a dining set for meals al fresco and a bench to enjoy the afternoon sun.

Parking

On street parking is available immediately outside the cottage.

WiFi

3 Whitewalls has WiFi, so if you need to get in touch with the outside world you can.

Dogs

One dog (or two small) dogs are very welcome. We charge £30 per dog per week or short break. Please call 01872 553491 to add a second dog to your booking.

Baby friendly

Please note that due to the steep nature of the stairs 3 Whitewalls isn't suitable for babies or children.

Eating out

Charming Mithian is thought to be the second oldest village in Cornwall, there's a 16 century country pub with a little village store tucked at the rear just a short stroll from the cottage and there are fabulous place to eat nearby, we recommend the following:

The Miners Arms in Mithian has an extensive food menu and a great atmosphere.

The Tap House in St Agnes is a bustling bar and bistro, with an ever changing menu of local deliciousness and live music at weekends in the summer; booking is advisable up to a week in advance as it is so good!

The St Agnes Hotel is dog friendly and does great cooked breakfasts and Sunday roasts.

Taste is a small bistro in Churchtown, just up the hill in St Agnes on Vicarage Road. Good locally sourced foods and a little outside area for drinks and nibbles on warm summer evenings.

Genki is the cutest little surfer's shack, which you will find near Trevaunance Cove, through the wooded path and along Quay Road toward the beach. Great for coffee, fresh fruit smoothies and sandwiches, as well as offering fun tapas and sushi nights.

Schooners (summer months) is right on the beach in Trevaunance Cove, offering fantastic views, delicious food and is the best place for sunset drinks.

Lewsey Lou's serves fresh, locally caught, battered or grilled fish and chips from its beachside location in Trevaunance Cove.

The Cornish Pizza Company is fantastic (and award-winning), gourmet takeaway pizza establishment on Vicarage Road in St Agnes.

Nearby Truro also has some wonderful eating places with Gravy Boesti, Tabb's Restaurant, Mustard and Rye and Zaffiro's Bar and Restaurant to name but a few.

Exploring

There are four stunning beaches close to the cottage, you can walk to Trevellas Porth beach in around 30 minutes; Chapel Porth, Trevaunance Cove and Porthtowan beaches are a short drive away.

Details of local walks and dog walk trails will be left for you in the cottage. Be sure to walk to St Agnes beacon where you would've seen Poldark being filmed! You can hire bikes and surf gear in St Agnes.

St Agnes has Clear Skies status so make sure to take some time to do some star gazing - the clarity of the night sky here is phenomenal. For the adventurous, why not head to the beacon at St Agnes for a perfect view - it's where all the stargazers go.

Reviews

"We simply loved the cottage! The attention to detail and little touches throughout were lovely. A massive thank you to Michelle for making it such a lovely home to relax in." - August 2017

'Everything was just perfect - from the info texts whilst we were on our way down to the recommendations of where to eat (the Pizza's at Cornwall Pizza are AMAZING and we spent far too much time in the Taphouse!) The thick ,sparkling white towels and robes are such a luxury. and plenty of blankets to wrap up in whilst sitting out in the gorgeous courtyard.

The cottage is beautiful - what a great use of space. And I loved the little touches. Fresh flowers, delicious bread, scones and hot cross buns from the local bakery and sweets!! Oh and of course the fizz in the fridge was so welcome after a 6hr drive!!!

Florence the dog was so excited to find a bag of toys and treats. I thought that was a fantastic idea.

We will definitely be back and will highly recommend the cottage to anyone heading that way -

Thank you again for making our stay a really special one.' - April 2017
