Nestled in the glorious countryside of the north Cornish coast close to Tintagel, Boscastle and St Nectan's Glen lies this exquisite homestay for eight lucky people - and their dog.

Trebrea Lodge is a Grade II* listed home, a distinguished Cornish country house dating from the 14th and 18th Centuries with a rich history. Local legend is that the Bray family who owned the property were involved in smuggling and that there is a tunnel in the grounds! Completely remodelled in 2021, today it benefits from sophisticated wallcoverings, Italian designer furniture and high end audio and visual equipment.

The clever owner has created a chic, glorious retreat where modern minimalist design blends perfectly with the original style and character of the house, creating a light, bright coastal home with panoramic sea views that's the epitome of laid-back loveliness, whilst outside you'll discover a spacious garden for everyone to enjoy, just perfect. Promising spectacular 180-degree views over sunsets to the west, visible from every window and the front facade of the retreat, stunning moments await at sundown.

Dog friendly and perfect for larger families, groups of friends or just couples seeking plenty of space, this is a stylish escape for those looking to explore the best of the north Cornish coast, whilst being tucked away enough to be a deliciously quiet haven away from the hustle and bustle.

Living

A wonderful welcome awaits on entering the gorgeous reception hall, where heated slate floors lead to the cinema room. A plush Arketipo loft sofa lies in front of the 55-inch Bang Olufsen television - perfect for film nights - and a classically styled Chevilotte pool table. There are commanding sea views from two eye-catching sash windows if you prefer some no-screen time! A stunning tall frameless glass door offers an alternative view over the tiered gardens, whilst a Chesneys white marble fire offers cosy flickering light during cooler months. A Naim music streamer is on hand to ensure you're always accompanied by your favourite tunes.

Take the stairs up to the galleried landing to the exquisite, sunshine yellow drawing room. Three sash windows let the light flood in and afford superb countryside and sea views. The opulent furnishings create a relaxing oasis with a spacious sofa offering plenty of room for sprawling in front of the Chesneys fireplace, whilst the heated oak floors provide additional warmth on cooler days.

Eating

You'll discover the kitchen at the end of the house. Invoking a minimalist style, tall sash windows let in plenty of light, as well as having tremendous countryside and sea views as well as over the tranquil, tiered rear gardens. The heated slate flagstone floor ensures toes are always toasty warm, whilst the huge, bespoke oak table takes centre stage. Extending to almost 17 foot, it forms both a central island for prepping as well as informal dining for six people.

The kitchen comes fully equipped with everything a cook should need, such as the Wolf dual fuel range oven with two large ovens, six gas rings, an electric barbeque and a teppanyaki. In addition, there's a Gaggenau fridge (plus secondary fridge/freezer), Miele dishwasher, washing machine and all the other essentials needed to rustle up culinary delights for your loved ones (or get someone to do it for you).

There's also a fabulous, more formal dining room, the perfect setting for celebrations and dinner parties around the table that seats ten. With three tall sash windows, the room offers plenty of light and sea views, whilst the white marble Chesneys fireplace with slate hearth is a welcome addition on cooler days. The chic slate flagstone floor is blessed with underfloor heating too.

Sleeping and bathing

There are four stunning en suite bedrooms to choose from, two located on the first floor and the remaining two on the second floor.

On the first floor, you'll discover the master bedroom with stunning triple aspect windows, sumptuous super king-sized bed and majestic vaulted ceiling, showcasing the original pegged A frames, making this a light, bright bedroom. In addition, the soft oak floor boasts cosy underfloor heating to keep toes warm in winter. The en suite is just lovely, with a raised large bathroom with eye-catching Portland slab flooring, Hoesch Designer freestanding bath and a separate walk-in shower. From both the bath and the bed, there are outstanding views to the coastline and sea - so ideal for long lie ins and indulgent soaks.

The second bedroom on this floor is a spacious room with a king-sized bed and sash windows to both the front and rear of the house, overlooking the sea and coastline and gardens. The en suite has a large walk in shower with Portland stone slab floor.

Take the stairs to the second floor and you'll discover the huge third bedroom, covering the entire central part of the house. With a gorgeous, canopied ceiling and a vast super king-sized bed with floral headboard, this is an exquisite bedroom and perfect for long, romantic lie ins. With four sash windows, this is a sunlit room, where summer breezes waft through leisurely. The bed is a zip and link bringing the additional flexibility of turning into two large single beds if preferred. An oak plinth leads up to the bathroom area where a freestanding Hoesch Designer bath with hand shower awaits.

The fourth bedroom is a delightful twin room with canopied ceiling and A-frame roof timbers overlooking the gardens - a perfect escape for little ones tucked amongst the eaves! This room has an en suite shower room complete with a Portland stone slab floor.

All the beds come swathed in luxurious linens, bedding, cushions and throws to ensure a blissful nights' sleep.

In addition, there's a downstairs loo with underfloor heating.

Outdoor space

Trebrea Lodge is set back off a quiet countryside lane, benefitting from gorgeous, drystone walling-surrounded gardens and a central driveway. There are extensive tiered lawns, a copse of beautiful trees, a field opposite the house, plus an orchard and other trees. The gardens boast splendid views of the countryside and out towards the sea. The gardens are fully enclosed. To help you relax, there's a Fermob dining table and chairs for alfresco meals, four Fermob sun loungers, a charcoal BBQ, wooden benches throughout the garden, a croquet lawn and Cornilleau outdoor table tennis.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Trebrea Lodge:

Stunning property.

Graceful and tastefully decorated house in a large garden. Lucky to get a fabulous sunset on first evening as property has a beautiful West facing view to the sea.

Boutique retreats and the company which maintained the property were brilliant when we needed them during our stay. The description of the property was spot on.

Lovely views.

A stunning, characterful home and oh-so-stylish! We had an amazing weekend at Trebrea Lodge, and have fallen in love with the gorgeous interiors of this beautiful home. It was perfect for us, a group of friends, and it was a fabulous base from which to explore the north Cornish coastline (when we could bear to tear ourselves away). Couldn't recommend highly enough!

Spectacular property, setting and views breathtaking. Stylish and comfortable with exquisite interior design and furnishings. House was well equipped and comfortable, we especially liked the cinema room sofa, we stayed in October would love to experience the garden in the summer.

This was the perfect getaway retreat for us and our dog. We will most definitely be visiting again, I honestly don't think we could top the comfort of the house/grounds and the location to enjoy a glorious Cornish experience.

Trebrea Lodge was a perfect base for one of the most stunning areas of Britain. The house itself is beautiful and very comfortable. The perfect escape with the added bonus of glorious sunsets through the front windows.

superbly equipped and the interiors were exceptional.

Very impressed with the kitchen. It was fitted with high end professional equipment that I always wanted to try myself but never had a chance. Amazing cottage and we had a wonderful stay.
