Living and dining

This lovely space has bags of character and the stylish teal Loaf sofa juxtaposes nicely with the pretty Turkish rugs, whitewashed walls, inglenook fireplace with wood burner and oak beams. The room is completed by gorgeous antique furniture, soft lighting and a dining table tucked away in the corner, perfect for breakfasting or late suppers. Cool during hot summers and cosy during winter months, we can't think of anything better than lounging away an afternoon here, with only a book for company.

Eating

The fabulous kitchen is surprisingly spacious for an old cottage, with the mod cons and country-style cabinets blending perfectly with the heritage of the house. There's a handy breakfast bar for two for meals on the go, bags of space for cooking up a feast or five and the all-important Nespresso coffee machine to help you wake up in the morning. Just perfect!

Sleeping

There are two gorgeous bedrooms. The incredible en suite master bedroom has a sumptuous Loaf super king bed as well as a fabulously romantic freestanding slipper-style bath and even a wood burning stove, made for cosying up in front of on winter nights. The second equally pretty bedroom has a king size bed and light and airy vaulted ceiling and windows offering plenty of light. Both bedrooms are swathed in glorious linens, throws and cushions, offering a peaceful paradise for long lazy lie ins.

Bathing

There are two shower rooms, one being en suite to the master bedroom. Both have walk-in showers with large drench heads, perfect for wake-me-up showers in the morning or for soothing aching muscles after a day's exploring. Of course, there's also the pretty slipper bath in the master bedroom - just light the wood burner, run a bath and lie back - totally blissful.

Outdoor space

Outside, you'll find an enclosed pretty little garden with a lovely patio area, complete with table, chairs and a barbeque for summer days and a spot of alfresco dining.

In the Area

Being nestled in the heart of Dartmoor in Devon, there's rich pickings when it comes to places to eat, visit and explore. Ashburton is the nearest town and a lovely place to visit with a fabulous range of delis, local food shops, antique shops and arts and crafts. Of course, you have the whole of Dartmoor to explore with its hundreds of paths, tracks and woodland walks to traverse - great if you have dogs with you too or why not try horse riding.

If you like being on water, the River Dart is great for canoeists whilst there are beaches nearby to enjoy such as Bigbury and Bantham. Salcombe and Dartmouth are also exceptional sailing destinations.

Buckfast Abbey is well worth a visit. This Benedictine monastery is free to enter and has lovely gardens to explore. Nearby Totnes is crammed full of independent shops, places to eat and Devon's largest food market which takes place on the third Sunday of every month.

The South Devon Railway, which runs between Totnes and Buckfastleigh by steam train, is a lovely way to see the countryside.

Make sure to check out The Tavistock Inn in Poundsgate, a 25-minute walk across fields from Little Cresson Hayes. One of the oldest inns in England (it dates to about 1413), it serves excellent food and drink and dogs are welcome. Legend has it that 'old Nick', the devil himself, called in for a drink before striking the local church with lightening (this actually happened - the vicar at the time lived in Little Cresson Hayes which was attached to Cresson Hayes back in the 17th century). Other places to try are The Rugglestone Inn in nearby Widecombe in the Moor and The Old Library, an excellent restaurant in Ashburton.

Steeped in history, this ancient house is incredibly characterful and hugely romantic - both perfect for couples and families alike, and dog friendly too!

10 Gardens to Visit in Devon

Flourishing in the county’s temperate climes, Devon’s colourful array of gardens leave visitors spellbound with their depth and beauty.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Little Cresson Hayes:

Lovely comfortable little cottage very cleverly done so as to be modern and unexpectedly spacious.

A fabulous stay in a wonderful cottage Helen and James

We loved Little Cresson. The location is stunning , with walks from the doorstep. The cottage is beautifully designed and decorated snd it was a real treat to stay here. We would love to return.

Quaint and perfectly situated for a quiet break

Really lovely cottage, beautiful decorated, comfy and so relaxing. Kitchen very well stocked. Amazing views of the moors and great walks straight from the doorstep

We had a great time at the cottage. It's really spacious and well equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed. The bath in the bedroom was amazing with lovely views. There was a lovely "secret garden" for us to use which was perfect for a drink in the evening. It was difficult to walk the dogs as cattle walk freely through the village so this meant we had to drive out of the area for a more relaxed walk without having to worry about the dogs; but there were plenty of beautiful walks in short driving distance.

A lovely cottage in a rural location on the edge of Dartmoor. Little Cresson Hayes was so well equipped, the best we have ever stayed in. The basket of food goodies was much appreciated

Idyllic little bolt hole.

We were thrilled with this cottage. Romantic and spotless. Truly felt like a home from home.

Amazing cottage, couldn’t of asked for a better holiday location. It was a home from home everything we needed, perfect if you want to escape everyday life! Great for dogs too!

Beautifully decorated & very well equipped.

We absolutely loved our stay at Little Cresson Hayes and wouldn’t hesitate for a second about going back again. Everything in the cottage was just beautiful and we just loved all of the Loaf furniture! The location was idyllic and peaceful and being woken by cows mooing in the morning beat any alarm clock! We particularly loved using the log burning stove in the evenings to keep the chill away and soaking in the beautiful slipper tub too!

A beautifully authentic cottage but with all modern facilities situated on the southern edge of the moor between Ashburton and Widecombe. We loved our visit.......and the view of a Dartmoor goal outside our kitchen window one morning.
