Set close to the charming village of Chagford on Dartmoor, Upper Barn is a beautifully converted barn offering an escape away from the everyday; a countryside abode from which to woo your loved one in complete seclusion. Step inside and you'll find a home full of vintage charm, where beautiful antique pieces have been paired thoughtfully with contemporary luxuries, a delightful retreat whatever time of year. In summer, the country cottage garden offers an idyllic spot surrounded by trees and fields, whilst during cooler months the cosy wood burner and snug rooms offer a warm escape from blustery days. Perfectly located to explore the best of Dartmoor, there is plenty to see and do all within a short distance, whether it's taking to the moor on foot and exploring the surrounding Tors, discovering the unique natural locations such as nearby Meldon Hill, or pottering around by car and exploring the pretty villages that dot the landscape such as nearby Chagford and exquisite Widecombe-in-the-moor.

Living

Just what you would expect in a cottage of this calibre, the wonderful sitting room is super cosy and snug and a delight to return to after a day out exploring. A sumptuous sofa lies next to the wood burner, the perfect spot to curl up together with the lights dimmed, watching the flickering flames reflect brightly on the walls. In addition, there's a desk should you need to catch up on some work, lots of books and magazines to peruse plus a Smart TV ticked away in the cupboard with Sky TV and DVD player. There's also a SONOS speaker so you can listen to your favourite tunes and create your new holiday playlist together.

Eating

The fabulous galley kitchen has everything you need to rustle up feasts for your loved one, with an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and all the other essentials including a Nespresso coffee machine to help wake you up in the morning. At the far end is a cute breakfast bar with high stools, perfect for laid back meals. In the sitting room you'll find a more formal dining table, for meals tête-à-tête.

Sleeping

Take the stairs up to the bedroom where you'll discover the oh-so-romantic bedroom with vaulted ceiling and pretty views out of the window. The super comfy king-sized bed is just made for long lie ins and breakfast in bed, whilst the built-in wardrobe and cupboard offers plenty of storage. We love the darling dressing table and there's an occasional chair for when you want a quiet moment to yourself.

Bathing

This cottage has a beautiful bathroom with stone floor and a deep-set window plus a freestanding, roll top bath with handheld shower - perfect for long bubbly soaks - and a heated rail to keep towels warm and fluffy.

Outdoor space

Outside there's a lovely cottage garden overlooking fields and the countryside (and maybe a cow or two!) complete with lawned area and a bistro table and chairs for alfresco dining. There's also a two-seater bench for tranquil moments, and lanterns for when the sun sets - how perfect!

Parking

There is private off road parking for one car adjacent to the property.

South West Tales: A Halloween Special, Part 2

In part 2 of our Halloween special, we share some more of our favourite myths, ghost stories and chilling tales from across the South West.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Upper Barn:

Upper Barn is an idyllic to retreat, tranquil, peaceful and very cosy.

This is a delightful stay. The cottage is beautiful and lovely for two people with everything you could need. The location is idyllic and peaceful and a lovely base to go walking from. I would thoroughly recommend

This was just as we had hoped for. The barn was cosy and comfortable with everything we wanted without being cluttered. It was the perfect retreat from hectic lives and the dreadful weather.

The owners and their dogs were exceedingly friendly without being obtrusive. The welcome pack helped us settle in instantly.

This is a wonderful property and the hosts are delightful. Highly recommended!
