Autumn in Devon

Bid farewell to summer in style. One of the most spectacular seasons for its food, festivals and natural finery, we can’t resist autumn in Devon.

Combine the luxuries of a good hotel with the suit-yourself dynamic of self-catering.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about The Old Apple Store:

A cottage with character and history in a lovely village location, ideal for walks, beach and the Grampus Inn just 5 minutes walk away. The outside decking is very well designed for relaxation, alfresco dining and a dip in the hot tub.

What a brilliant cottage in a lovely location. Really comfortable with great decor and the amazing outdoor space and hot tub.

We had a great week exploring the area and amazing beaches. The Grampus Inn and the Old Schoolroom were fab. Brilliant walks with great views. Paddle boarding from Lee Bay was fantastic. We loved it and wish we’d been able to stay longer!

We were mesmerised by the photos on the website, but upon arrival we could immediately see how beautiful this cottage was. Thanks to the glorious weather, we spent most nights looking at the night sky and listening to the owls. The cottage is beautiful and the welcome pack on arrival was such a lovely touch. Such a beautiful part of the world. We did not want to leave. Thank you!

We had a lovely sunny holiday, a full week of good weather. A whole week of walks with amazing views. The hot tub after the walking was very pleasant. The Old Apple Store is a top location to stay and very remote with a good pub, no noise, and lovely people around.

What a wonderful, picturesque cottage to stay in for the Easter Bank Holiday. We have had such a relaxing stay and cannot decide whether to recommend The Old Apple Store to everyone we know or keep this gem of a place to ourselves. Everything was so well thought out, equipped, and full of little luxuries. Thanks so much for our welcome hamper and chocolate bunnies! Like previous visitors, we enjoyed cider and chips and the open mic night closeby.

What a gem! It forced us to switch off, rest and relax, taking in some of the best of North Devon. First stop, Friday night open mic at The Grampus Inn for baked camembert and wine with the locals. Woolacombe beach is a must, with a lovely jacket potato and a slice of cake at the far end of the beach at Putsborough Beach Café. The icing on the cake was the breath-taking walk along Saunton Sands Beach!

This cottage is idyllic and the perfect place to stay at any time, but was especially perfect for our mid-winter cosy retreat. Despite fairly wild weather, we managed great walks each day along the coast path and circular routes from the village. Luxury touches like quality sheets, towels, interesting furniture and a super clean hot tub make this such a lovely cottage, as does its position on the edge of the woodland, with chirping bird by day and a hooting owl in the evening! Thank you for creating such a special place.

It was beautiful, well appointed and very comfortable.

A wonderful week helped by magnificent weather. I think all the previous entries in this book covers how good this retreat is. We used it as a base to walk sections of the SWCP between Porlock Weir and Braunton using buses and taxis to ferry us to our startpoints each morning. The Grampus was a proper pub, while The Antidote in Ilfracombe served fabulous food. The Old Schoolroom Craft Gallery is great to support local craftspeople too. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Fabulous weekend here at The Old Apple Store. Incredibly lucky with the weather - managed to walk along the coastal path to Ilfracombe for a lovely lunch and spent plenty of time in the hot tub. Highly recommend The Grampus Inn, nothing better than a good pub you can walk to. A beautiful hideaway, perfect for parking the car up and not needing it for the rest of the weekend.

A charming little cottage in a lovely village within a short walk of the village craft shop, pub and beach. The decking area outside with dining table, hot tub and seating is particularly excellent. We enjoyed exploring North Devon although we were already in the best location!

We had an amazing time at this gorgeous cottage! Stunning location and loved the thoughtful touches, like the robes and welcome hamper, plus the hot tub was lovely! Thank you for this relaxing and hugely enjoyable stay, we loved every second of out time at The Old Apple Store.

Quiet location, very peaceful. We enjoyed an amazing week in this cottage. Thank you, we've made some fantastic memories! We watched and listened to the baby owls every night from the hot tub.

A superb property. Small but perfect. In a stunning location.

Stylish, comfortable and gorgeous location. The perfect retreat.

Thank you for a lovely stay! Comfortable beds, lovely hot tub, and ideal setting. We got a much needed opportunity to recharge and relax.

Lovely holiday at The Old Apple Store. Serenaded by tawny owls in the hot tub. Thank you.

Went for a paddle in the sea on Christmas morning and had a drink in the lovely village pub. Then went back to the cottage where we cooked a full Christmas dinner and relaxed in the hot tub later. Perfect Christmas break.

Thank you so much for letting us stay at this beautiful accomodation. We have had the best time! Everything was perfect and we loved all of the extra little touches. The hot tub was amazing. We would love to come back again in the summer!

What a dreamy property! We've had such a relaxing week walking, reading, and enjoying the hot tub! Thank you for a great week!

We have had an amazing week here! The highlights have been the hot tub and cosy nights by the fire. We have never slept so well! Many thanks.
