For those seeking a grand, tucked away escape, look no further than this beauty. Dating back to 1640, this homestay has a rich history, having been at times both a vicarage and a school. Today, Harberton Manor has been lovingly restored into a warm, welcoming dog friendly residence for twelve lucky people, where plentiful living space has been gorgeously styled, reflecting the unique heritage of the place whilst embracing the best of modern living. With six bedrooms, three dining areas, four living areas and a magnificent garden with outdoor heated swimming pool and tennis court, this is an astonishing retreat perfect for large family get togethers, friends wanting to celebrate something special or those simply wanting a manor house to call their own. Set in the rolling Devonshire countryside close to Totnes and Dartmoor, and just half an hour from the coast, this is a wonderful retreat from which to explore this stunning part of the southwest.

Harberton Manor has a host of sumptuous living areas in which to relax, from the moment you step into the entrance hall with its grand piano.

Firstly, there's the formal Drawing Room, resplendent with three large sofas to recline on, a huge coffee table (perfect for puzzles!) immense flickering open fire, and dual aspect views over the gardens. This is a lovely 'grown up' room, the perfect setting for chats and post-dinner drinks.

Next to this is the Morning Room, a bright, sunny spot, complete with a Smart TV with BT Sport and Netflix, a host of DVDs, an Xbox (which plays DVDs) and lots of board games and puzzles to keep the whole family entertained.

The Snug is an oh-so-cosy room with exposed beams, a homely wood burner, a comfy three-seater sofa, two armchairs and a Smart TV with BT Sport and Netflix - the perfect room for catching up on your favourite box sets or for a quiet film night. The south facing terrace and gardens are accessed via the Snug with the perfect coffee or BBQ spot just outside the door.

On the top floor, accessed by its own set of stairs, is a fabulous games room. With a hint of the 'man cave' about it, you'll discover a 7ft pool table, massive Smart TV with BT Sport and Netflix and huge sofa, surround sound with subwoofer and sound bar, plus a bar with stools, fridge and oven - perfect for stocking up with drinks and warming up snacks on movie night! A door at the other end leads on from here to a small study, should you need a quiet corner to catch up on emails or work.

Each room has its own SONOS to ensure you're musically accompanied wherever you go. In addition, there's a handy boot room by the kitchen, perfect for storing boots, coats and dog paraphernalia.

The gorgeous kitchen is the perfect playground for the keen chef, host to everything you could possibly need to rustle up feasts. At its heart is a massive black Aga with four ovens, its warmth spreading through the house. In addition, there's a Neff electric oven and induction hob, two dishwashers, two full length fridge freezers, microwave, wine fridge and the all-important coffee machine. The central kitchen island is great for prepping food and there's stools to perch on too for snacks on the go, plus a wall mounted TV and SONOS Move. Also in the kitchen is a cosy table for four.

Next to the kitchen lies the breakfast room, an informal space hosting laid back meals for up to six people or kids activities while you cook.

For special occasions, the incredible formal dining room offers a stunning space for lavish mealtimes. A huge Victorian mahogany table runs the length of the room, with fabulous green velvet chairs nestled underneath. An open fire adds cosy warmth to celebrations, whilst full length sash windows overlook the garden and can be opened on warm days. This is the perfect setting for Christmas! A private chef is available to take the stress out of cooking - just get in touch and we can help get this arranged for you.

On the first floor, you'll find a utility room complete with washing machine and tumble dryer with a door leading into the upper garden - perfect for airing clothes.

Sleeping and bathing

There are six astonishingly beautiful bedrooms to choose from, all located on the first floor and individually named after flowers associated with the house.

'Magnolia' is the master bedroom, situated at the far end of the landing. Step through and you'll discover an oh-so-romantic room in soothing neutral tones, with a stunning super king sized four poster bed, plus two armchairs, lots of closet space, a chest of drawers and three dual aspect sash windows overlooking the magnificent garden. In addition, the en suite boasts a huge bathtub for two and a walk-in shower.

'Thistle' lies next door and has a gorgeous green velvet king sized zip and link bed, meaning it can be made up as a king double bed or twin beds. With a feature fireplace, built in wardrobe, a full-length mirror and black out blinds on the two windows overlooking the garden, this is a perfect room for children.

'Honeysuckle' is a spacious bedroom with a ginormous super king-sized bed, a fabulous dusky pink sofa on which to lounge with coffee, wardrobe and a chest of drawers, whilst three sash windows afford stunning views over the garden.

Opposite is the family bathroom for 'Thistle' and 'Honeysuckle' and comes complete with a bath and a walk-in shower.

From here, stroll across the landing to the three remaining bedrooms.

'Chamomile' is a prettily sunny room in deep yellow, featuring a king sized four poster bed, chest of drawers and a wardrobe.

'Wild Rose' is as charming as its namesake, with a king size bed with mossy green headboard, wardrobe, drawers and a sweet window seat. There's an en suite shower room too plus an extremely pretty conservatory with doors that lead out onto its own little terrace and the gardens.

'Peony' has a king size zip and link bed (so converts to twin singles), with dual aspect windows, a wardrobe and chest of drawers. In addition, it has a 'jack and jill' bathroom with bath and shower - this means there are two doors, from the bedroom and the hallway. This bathroom is shared with 'Chamomile'.

In addition, you'll find the 'powder room' is just off the main entrance downstairs, and there's a further loo next to the kitchen. On the top floor, there's a further bathroom with free standing bath and separate walk-in shower.

Outdoor space

Outside you'll discover beautifully landscaped, expansive grounds that lie over approximately six acres and are completely private. The main south facing terrace lies to the back of the house and gets the sun all day. It has a large table and chairs for twelve, as well as a round table and six chairs by the door to the snug plus additional seating dotted around, overlooking the mature, oh-so-pretty flowerbeds overflowing with colour. There's also a barbeque area, perfect for summer meals alfresco. Stroll down to the turquoise heated outdoor swimming pool (heated between the months of May to September), encircled by sun loungers and parasols, for lazy afternoons and cooling dips. For those feeling more energetic, the tennis court is a short walk up the garden, whilst peace and quiet can be found strolling around the expansive lawns, arboretum and wild grass meadows with far reaching views over Dartmoor and the surrounding countryside - a true rural haven to call your own.

There is plenty of private, off-road parking for at least six cars, as well as a Zappi electric car charging point for guests with electric cars.
