Set in the courtyard of an ancient manor house, Wildflower Cottage is a beautifully converted former hayloft barn offering a characterful getaway for lucky couples looking to hide away from it all. With an upside-down approach, meaning the bedroom and bathroom are downstairs and the kitchen and living space upstairs, accessed by exterior stone steps, it's a quirky, charming bolt hole with bags of colour, original artwork, vintage ceramics and lots of space and an idyllic apple orchard to relax in. The owners make cider vinegar from their orchards and grow their own fruit and vegetables, so you may be greeted with some of their home-grown bounty!

Living and eating

With one large, open-plan living space made for relaxing, you'll find a stunning Danish wood burning stove at the heart of the room. A large, super-comfy Loaf sofa offers plenty of snuggle room amongst the cushions, where you can curl up on winter nights with the fire lit or with the stable doors open during the summer, letting the sounds of nature waft through on a warm summer's breeze. Additionally, there's a T.V for when you want to watch your favourite film or series - after all, holidays are made for relaxing!

The kitchen is to one side and just made for rustling up a romantic meal, with a butler's sink and all the equipment you'll need nicely tucked away inside white cupboards. In front of the kitchen area is a table made for two for on-the-go breakfasts before a day out exploring, or long lazy dinners, savouring local produce you've bought whilst out and about. Make sure to open the stable door on sunny days to let the golden rays warm you as you eat.

Descend the stairs and you'll find a romantic, colourful en suite boudoir in soul-lifting shades of yellows, blues and crisp whites. The stunning Feather & Black king-sized bed, swathed in goose-down bedding and linens, guarantee deep sleeps and long languorous lie-ins, whilst the gorgeous roll-top bath is just lovely - all you need is a glass of bubbles with your bubble bath to complete things! The lively artwork, velvet cushions and throws complete the room, making it a tranquil, idyllic hideaway to retreat to at the end of the day.

Next to the bedroom is a fab shower room, complete with a huge walk-in shower with Lefroy Brooks fixtures and the most gorgeous mustard-yellow tiles and luxurious rainforest shower.

Outside space

Take a short stroll through the flower-filled courtyard to the peaceful orchard where you'll find a rustic picnic table and pretty benches just for you, with beautiful views over the village and countryside - a perfect spot to enjoy a sundowner.

There is parking outside the cottage.

In the Area

Wildflower cottage is in a gorgeous Devon country village boasting two village pubs and within an area where there is plenty to do right on your doorstep. Within a five-minute stroll of your front door are two atmospheric ancient pubs serving excellent food, and an award-winning community shop and café stocking locally grown fruit, veg, artisan breads, organic products and even Berry Brothers wine!

Just up the road is the lovely town of Totnes with its alternative vibe, independent shops and sense of real history (it boasts more listed buildings than any other town in Britain). Devon's largest Good Food market takes place on the third Sunday of every month with over 50 stalls whilst a regular market occurs every Friday and Saturday. It's also lovely to take a boat trip on the River Dart from here.

If you enjoy walking, Dartmoor is just a short drive away and offers miles of paths, tracks and bridleways for you to explore.

Drive to the coast to enjoy the beautiful beaches of the South Hams and also Torbay, all within a 30 - 40-minute drive.

Historic Totnes with its food markets and quirky character, Ashburton's antique shops, Staverton's steam railway and the beautiful Dartington Hall estate with great walks along the River Dart are all short drives away.

For foodies, head to Ben's Farm Shop (formally Riverford Farm Shop) in the nearby village of Staverton to pick up lots of organic and locally-grown goodies to take back to your retreat.

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Wildflower Cottage:

Cottage great, owners fabulous.

The photos (although lovely!) don't do the cottage justice - it was a beautiful and really spacious place for a quiet week away. Beautiful interiors and the owners were friendly and full of recommendations. We'd love to visit again.

Lovely cottage with great hosts, we enjoyed our stay as did our pup!

Wildflower cottage has been beautifully furnished, and we loved all the finishing touches. The bed was extremely comfortable. Relaxing and reading the Sunday papers on the amazing sofa was a highlight!

What a lovely dog friendly cottage - even nicer than the photos. With 2 great local pubs (both dog friendly) it was the perfect location for an Autumn break with easy access to the coast. With a log burner and home from home interiors what more could you ask?

'In the current COVID circumstances we were delighted to find our accommodation spotlessly clean and fully equipped. The fridge full of goodies was a great start. The owners of the property were helpful and friendly (and came bearing home made cider!) and managed a nice balance between being available and letting us enjoy their lovely cottage in peace' - August 2020

'What a hidden treasure! We stayed in Wildflower cottage in July this year, booked at the last minute, but what a treat we were for. A very warm welcome from Charlotte the owner when we arrived, explaining about the cottage, the local area and how to get to the meadow, that we made great use of while there. Charlotte had provided us with some locally sourced basics, Bread, butter, milk, marmalade and a bottle of bubbles in the fridge that was a perfect start to the holiday. Extremely well-equipped kitchen for cooking and chilling, and with the stable doors open with the sun streaming into the kitchen and lounge area, it was just idyllic and glorious. Slipper and bathrobes, plenty of luxurious towels in the shower room with more to use after the long relaxing soaks in the roll top bath. Every comfort of home with so much more. We will defiantly be making a revisit and can't wait, thank you Charlotte, it's a beautiful and perfect property' - July 2020

'The place was wonderful, as was the host. We could not have had a nicer stay' - February 2019

'Wildflower Cottage is a haven for rest and relaxation. The cottage has been thoughtfully and beautifully designed with every need catered for. David and Charlotte were fabulous hosts and very generous with recommendations and highly attentive. We would highly recommend this property.' - January 2018

'Highly contemporary interior, calming, relaxing, and wonderfully clean. The photos don't do it justice.' - November 2018

'Wildflower cottage was beautiful and the owners had thought of everything a guest could possibly need. A most comfortable and stessless break.' - October 2018
