If you're looking to whisk that special someone to somewhere utterly gorgeous with a host of things to do and see right on your doorstep without stepping in a car, look no further. This oh-so-romantic lovely lies in the heart of Winchester, a gorgeous mews cottage that's tucked away enough to be quiet yet is just a few steps away from the Cathedral and the heart of the city. Step inside and you'll discover a real gem; muted natural tones rule here with a dusting of the softest pink, whilst underfloor heating and French windows means it's a perfect home whatever time of year it is. No. 6 has been incredibly renovated by an interior designer to an extremely high standard, perfectly pairing the spirit of country and city living with sumptuous style. Just one hour from London by train and easily reached by car, No. 6 Winchester is ideal for both a weekend getaway, whilst with parking its perfect for longer stays, with a host of things to see and do in the area. Winchester is a bustling, ancient city with so much on offer from historical sites, country walks, unique shopping, and excellent eating out.

Living

The splendid sitting room has French doors that lead out into the courtyard garden, allowing the soft summer breeze to waft through on warmer days, whilst at the other end there's a Velux window, making this cosy space a light, welcoming room. We just love the plump, hand-made, bespoke luxurious sofa, just made for snuggling up on after a busy day exploring Winchester, and there's a Smart television at hand should you want to catch up on your favourite film or box set.

Upstairs, you'll discover a snug complete with sofa, chest of drawers and a desk, should you need to catch up on an email or two. We adore the Mulberry wallpaper in this peaceful room - a great space for time on your own with a book.

Eating

A gift of a very generous hamper and a welcome gin and tonic greet you on your arrival. If you wish to woo your loved one with a carefully planned romantic meal, the darling kitchen is just a dream to prep meals in. With a semi-vaulted ceiling with large Velux window, the excellently equipped kitchen comes complete with a large gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, and the all-important Nespresso coffee machine. You'll discover a charming table and chairs in the sitting room for cosy meals à deux. Of course, if cooking isn't your thing, there's a host of eateries from Michelin star dining to pub grub just a couple of minutes' walk away.

Sleeping

The bedroom is oh-so-romantic in shades of dusky pink, with a sumptuous king-sized bed for long lie ins and breakfasts in bed listening to the Cathedral bells. Swathed in luxurious French linen bed linens, fluffy, cloud-soft bedding and cushions and throws, the bed is truly a retreat to escape to after a busy day's exploring, something to sink in to and drift off into a blissful sleep. There's lots of wardrobe space for all your belongings to be stowed away, and a beautiful occasional chair for a quiet moment or two. The windows are treated with sun diffusers, roman blinds and the thickest lined curtains you have ever seen.

Bathing

This bijou Carrera marble-clad retreat has a fabulous shower room, mirroring the dusky pink of the bedroom, and comes with a surprisingly spacious walk-in shower with rainfall head and a heated towel rail to ensure the extraordinarily thick white towels are kept warm and fluffy, whilst white waffle dressing gowns and Bamford toiletries also await. In addition, the ground floor has a secondary loo.

Outdoor space

To the front of the property lies a walled courtyard garden. This pretty space is home to a table, chairs, and barbeque for alfresco dining, and is a wonderful spot for lazy breakfasts, intimate dinners and pre-and-post dinner drinks.

In the Area

No. 5 Winchester lies in the absolute heart of the historic city of Winchester. England's ancient capital and the seat of King Alfred the Great, this amazing place is jam-packed with history as well as full of excellent eateries and fascinating places to visit. For foodies, head to the three Michelin-starred restaurants Black Rat, Chesil Rectory or Kyoto Kitchen, or favourites such as The Ivy, Hotel du Vin and Brasserie Blanc. Explore the historic streets and uncover a host of wonderful independent shops and boutiques, whilst historians will love Winchester Cathedral and the Great Hall, which is over 700 years old and home to the legendary Arthurian Round Table, that has hung in the hall since 1348. Other places of note are Wolvesey Castle, Winchester College and the City Mill - an urban working corn mill that's stood in the same place since Saxon times. For walking, take a gentle walk along the River Itchen, pass through the blissful water meadows, enjoy the views at St Catherine's Hill (and take a look at the Hospital of St Cross) or join the South Downs Way, which starts in Winchester and runs 100 miles to Eastbourne. Other places of interest include the Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium and Jane Austen's House. This city also hosts a variety of street markets every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and many markets and fairs; its Christmas Market said to be one of the best in the UK, whilst the Winchester Hat Fair is the longest running festival of street theatre, entertainment, and circus. If you have time, pop in the car and just a short drive away you'll uncover the New Forest, the handsome Georgian town of Alresford and the Watercress Line, a heritage railway that runs for 10 miles from New Alresford to Alton.

Tucked away in historic Winchester lies this little beauty; a bijou couples' bolthole that's as charming as it is luxurious - a fantastic, peaceful hideaway that's just a moment's walk from the heart of the city.
