As you make your way up the garden path and step through the stable door, you'll not fail to fall for this stunning, 400-year-old thatched cottage. With bags of original features, from the exposed stone walls, wood burning stove and beamed ceilings through to the contemporary touches, such as the underfloor heating, super-luxe beds and fabulously deep, plump sofa, this is a dog-friendly retreat that perfectly blends style with tradition. This tucked-away gem is a comfortable getaway for four, but makes a great little love nest for two and is ideally located to explore the Cotswolds, Oxford and the amazing countryside.

The dual-aspect beamed sitting room is a cosy yet light space - perfect for relaxing in. The large Loaf 'Pudding' sofa is super-squishy - made for curling up on in front of the large wood burning stove. We adore the beautiful Persian rug, wide oak floorboards and contemporary artworks, whilst the mid-century armchair and antique Anglo-Indian cabinet make the room truly unique. The cute window seat is the ideal spot for a moment's peace with a cup of tea as you look across the village green, whilst there's a desk and chair too for those who might need to work (though we don't recommend it!).

The relaxed, country-style kitchen oozes charm while affording modern luxuries. The handmade terracotta tiled floor is cool underfoot during warm summer months, but luxurious underfloor heating means toes are kept cosy during winter. The rustic vintage Welsh dresser filled with antique china, Victorian dining table with ash rush-seat chairs, Belfast sink, and beamed ceiling sit harmoniously next to the Smeg induction range cooker, Nespresso coffee machine and all the other modern-day equipment you'll need to rustle up meals and snacks. This is a warm, friendly space and we love the solid wooden work surfaces, elegant blue cabinets and stable door that leads out into the cottage garden.

There are two gorgeous bedrooms to retire to at the end of the day. The master bedroom, with vaulted beamed ceiling and idyllic views over the village green, boasts a king-sized Loaf 'Margot' bed with sumptuous pillow-top mattress for a blissful night's sleep. In addition, there's a large closet to tuck clothes away in. The second bedroom is equally pretty with a wrought-iron double bed, gorgeous limed oak furniture, beamed vaulted ceiling and a lovely aspect. Both bedrooms have sumptuous bedding and linens to slip between at the end of the day, lovely original artwork, serene Farrow & Ball painted walls and soft Persian rugs.

Upstairs you'll find the bright, beamed bathroom with extra-deep bath (for those all-important soaks) and a separate walk-in shower with huge 300mm rainfall head - perfect for waking you up in the morning. There's a heated rail to keep towels warm and fluffy, and we love the Belfast sink too!

Outdoor space

The large, beautifully landscaped cottage garden (abundantly stocked with mature trees, David Austin roses, spring bulbs and fragrant summer perennials) is just divine and comes complete with a sunny terrace area with a teak table under a rose and wisteria-covered pergola, benches and steamer chairs for alfresco meals, as well as a Weber gas BBQ. This lush, south-facing space is an idyllic spot for sundowners - a place to relax in at the end of a busy day out exploring. If you want a lazy day, it's a hideaway from the world when all you want to do is relax with a good book and a G&T. It is completely enclosed and dog safe too.

There is private parking to the side of the property.

Babies are welcome, but please bring your own equipment.

Two dogs are very welcome at Greenside Cottage. There is a very pretty, fully enclosed garden for dogs to safely explore. We charge £35 per pet, per week or short break.

Greenside Cottage is easily reached, being less than two hours from London, and surrounded by gorgeous countryside to explore. The village of North Aston sits on a bluff above the Cherwell Valley, which has numerous public footpaths perfect for long dog walks. The Cotswolds are on your doorstep and making time to visit the chocolate-box villages and towns is a must - from Stow-on-the-Wold to Bourton-on-the-Water and everywhere in between. Of course, you're close to Oxford so a day exploring this stunning university town is a must - whether it's delving in the museums, visiting a college or two or enjoying bit of retail therapy in the covered market. There are fabulous places to eat too, from country inns to chic restaurants. Half the fun is discovering them for yourself, but close by you'll find The White Horse in Duns Tew, SoHo Farmhouse in Great Tew and Daylesford Organic in Kingham are all nearby, while the excellent Yurt Café at Nicholson's Nursery is literally around the corner from the cottage.

Seriously romantic and oh-so-pretty, this delightful thatched cottage tucked away near the Cotswolds is a one hour train and taxi journey from London Marylebone - we're in love!

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Greenside Cottage:

On arriving at the chocolate box perfect cottage we were not disappointed. The interior is in keeping with the cottage but with a contemporary influence. With all mod cons our stay was perfect. Outside the English cottage garden is beautiful, we had such a relaxing time, we will dear be back.

We had to change our holiday plans twice because of the Covid pandemic but it was worth it! We really enjoyed this charming cottage and the English countryside.

Thank you so much. What a beautiful cottage. We had a wonderful time!

We had a lovely, quiet week in the cottage. Really lovely home and we instantly felt at home here. The garden is lovely and well enclosed for our dog Hugo.

Very cosy and comfy cottage, especially loved the whistling kettle!

Our third time at this lovely cottage and gorgeous garden. We can't wait to return again!

To any who are contemplating this cottage - If you are looking for a restful, warm, relaxing place to rest your head, mind and spirit for a while, this cottage is a perfect recipe of convenience, modern connection and old world charm and pace.

We so enjoyed our stay at this comfortable cottage, and the added care package with champagne was a thoughtful treat. We profited of some great walks in the area, and a great pub lunch at The Falkland Arms.

Loved it! Especially the garden and the kitchen

We adore Greenside Cottage (our second stay) and instantly feel relaxed and at home. The garden is like stepping into a secret garden and it's delightful to brunch and dine under the pergola and rambling rose. We even had a couple of visits from Bob the bunny and felt as though we were part of a Beatrix Potter story! Our mid-week break left us feeling more relaxed than most other holidays, though we'd have loved to have stayed for longer! Thank you!

We had a lovely time. It was extremely clean and we felt really comfortable and relaxed.

Cosy, clean, beautiful decor . Would recommend!!

We had a wonderful half-term week in this cosy cottage with our 5 year-old daughter - everyone loved the cosy house, the beautiful garden, and the great location, as well as the basket of treats on arrival!
