In the Area

One of the premier centres for sailing with a multitude of moorings for boats and yachts, Bosham also has a fascinating history, with the chancel of its Saxon church featured in the Bayeux tapestry and nearby Fishbourne home to an amazing Roman settlement. The village quay is sited in a National Trust Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and well worth exploring. The village also has two pubs and a very popular hotel/restaurant, tea rooms and an arts and crafts centre. A little further to the north is a well-stocked farm shop and sub post office, medical centre and bakery.

Additionally, there are several golf courses nearby, and windsurfing and bathing can be enjoyed on the beaches of the Witterings and the South Downs National Park just to the north. The Goodwood Estate is perhaps best known for its race course, but also provides a country club, and has become increasingly well known for its annual Festival of Speed and the revival of its historic motor circuit. Chichester city centre is particularly well known for its cultural activities centred around the 12th century Cathedral and its fabulous shops. The home of Cowdry Park polo club at Midhurst, Arundel Castle and Petworth House (home to one of the finest National Trust art collections) are all a short drive away. If you like a tipple or two, there are also the Vineyards of Tinwood Estate and Nyetimber (a very popular champagne!) to visit for tours and tastings. Finally, there are lots of stunning walks both by the coast and inland!
