It’s a cold Friday evening in November, it’s been a busy week at Boutique HQ and Emma & I are excited to be on our way to spend the weekend at Lottie's Cottage near St Agnes. We arrive at 7pm, park outside, open the gate and step into the picturesque garden that is beautifully lit with warm subtle lighting and candlelit lanterns. The much needed relaxation begins!
The garden is so welcoming and we are now both eager to see what awaits us inside - we step in through the front door and are greeted by a roaring fire already lit for us and a fabulous board of nibbles laid out on the breakfast bar. We explore the kitchen further and find a beautiful homemade cake next to a fresh loaf and a fabulous bottle of bubbles chilling in the fridge. We also stumble across the sweetie jars, such a lovely touch!
We continue exploring the downstairs, admiring the quirky finishing touches. There’s a real warmth to this property, and as we look around at the art on the walls and decorative pieces scattered around, it is evident that these have been collected by the owners on their travels and the attention to details is noticeable throughout the property.
We then make our way upstairs to choose our bedrooms. Of course, both of us want to stay in the gorgeous master bedroom complete with its king size bed and stunning open-plan en suite bathroom. This bathroom really is something special with an inviting free-standing bath for two. We flip a coin for it and it must be my lucky day as I win the coin toss and take up residence in the Master bedroom. Emma starts to make herself comfortable in the pretty second bedroom, this room is equally as lovely as the master bedroom, and with luxurious bedding on all the beds I find myself thinking about bed time! However not yet, as now it’s time to relax and enjoy the nibbles and fizz that the owners have kindly left for us, followed by a moonlit soak in the hot tub. Heaven!
I wake on Saturday morning feeling well rested and refreshed and make my way downstairs to find Emma already preparing coffees for us in the Nespresso machine. We decide to take advantage of having our own private hot tub for the weekend and enjoy our coffee in the tub whilst admiring the garden.
Back inside it’s time for brunch, we discover the basket of eggs in the kitchen and rustle up poached eggs on toast, we both agree that little extras such as the eggs really do add that little something special to your holiday, especially as we hadn’t yet been to the shops to get supplies for the weekend!
Our first night spent at Lottie's Cottage was just the two of us, a great opportunity to have a catch up that we so rarely find the time to do with busy work schedules and family life, however today our partners are joining us, keen to watch the England Rugby game this afternoon.
We decide to walk into Perranporth so we wrap up and the four of us head out along the public footpath. The scenic walk through fields complete with cows and horses (much to my excitement) is just what we need to blow the cobwebs away. Within 25 minutes we are on the beach in Perranporth and heading towards The Watering Hole for lunch and grab front row seats for the Rugby game.
England win the rugby and we head off, it’s a cold and blustery day but nevertheless we walk along the beach, taking in the dramatic coastline and watch the surfers bobbing around in the waves.
We arrive back at the cottage just as it’s getting dark, light the wood burner, pour four glasses of wine and head for the hot tub. It’s a cold evening but that just makes the hot tub even more inviting.
Dinner is a casual affair put together in the well equipped and spacious kitchen and eaten at the dining table in the garden room, the rest of the evening consists of relaxing in front of the wood burner and catching up over glass of wine and a cheeseboard.
Sunday morning, we wake a little later than usual, probably due to having such a good night’s sleep in the wonderfully comfortable beds. We decide on a simple breakfast of poached eggs on toast made for the second day in a row, with the fresh loaf and eggs generously left for us by the owners.
The surf conditions are good, so we decide to go over to Crantock, another beautiful sandy beach just a short drive from Lottie's Cottage. The boys are keen surfers and head off into the sea with their boards whilst Emma and I, preferring to stay on dry land, go off to explore the caves and rock pools.
With evening fast approaching, we’re all starting to feel hungry and go in search of a Sunday roast. We head to The Smugglers Den, not far from Lottie's Cottage and enjoy a roast with all the trimmings.
Back at Lottie's Cottage we settle in for the evening and reflect on the weekend, the cottage has a lovely, warm and welcoming feel about it and the attention to detail is evident throughout the property, the little finishing touches and decorative pieces are a clear reflection of the owner’s personalities and their love of the cottage.
We wake early on Monday morning and I treat myself to a soak in the beautiful bath in the en suite while the others have a final dip in the hot tub. Followed by a coffee in the fun inspired Tiki bar!
We pack the cars and head home feeling relaxed and refreshed after a fun filled weekend.
