From the Wars of the Roses to the Jacobean rebellion, Lancashire has been at the forefront of English history and witness to major historic events, and as such is home to incredible castles, halls and battlefields to satisfy the most inquisitive of historians.

With 80% of the county rolling countryside, Lancashire is perfect for a rural escape with moorland, waterways, woodland, and hills to discover, such as the majestic Pendle Hills, world renowned for the tale of the Pendle Witches. The Forest of Bowland, an AONB, is a must-visit too, with fells, idyllic villages, riverside footpaths and woodland to explore. Lancaster is also famed for its canals, with the longest lock-free stretch of canal in England. A walk along a towpath is a must, often dotted with canalside pubs!
