This homely establishment is the longest surviving inn in Fordingbridge, having been in this prime location adjoining The Great Bridge since 1593 when this pub was known as ‘Le George’ before changing to ‘The Great George’ then finally being christened ‘The George’ in the 18th century. The George has become widely popular, especially with its waterside conservatory where you can enjoy a hot tasty meal whilst admiring the riverside views. You can also enjoy food in the restaurant – its roaring fire and cosy interiors make this area a great place to hunker down with friends and family on a cold evening. Otherwise you can take your nice cold pint onto the waterside decking and bask in the summer rays whilst listening to the gentle babbling brook
This sweet country pub specialises in homely gastro dishes such as fillet steaks, beer battered haddock, sausages and mash and burgers. If you’re unsure about what you fancy you can always indulge with one of the generous sharing platters which range from a selection of pork delights, seafood delicacies as well as a vegan and vegetarian option. We would highly recommend going for The Full Monty; a mixture of six different local cheeses from Dorset Blue Vinny to Tunworth Camembert, served with a selection of biscuits, grapes, celery and chutneys - delicious!
