Originally built in 1594 by Sir Walter Raleigh, Sherborne Castle is an extravagant and elegant Digby family home in the heart of Dorset countryside. This beautiful house boasts over 400 years of English interior design as well as a rich collection of nationally important art, furniture and porcelain.
This historical building first opened its door to the public in 1969 and offers a range of tours, plus is the host to a variety of events throughout the year from large Country Fairs to Classic Car Rallies to Jousting Tournaments. Come and see some of the impressive staterooms filled with a variety of art pieces and explore the Castle’s cellar, the original Raleigh Kitchen and the Museum which tells fascinating stories of the family as well as preserving unique heirlooms.
The garden is a Grade I listed garden and was one of ‘Capability’ Brown’s first commissioned English Landscape Gardens. There is 30 acres of Garden and Pleasure Grounds to have a peaceful stroll through or alternatively you can visit the areas of untouched woodland and landscapes surrounding the breath-taking 50-acre lake. Treat yourself to a hike through these gorgeous grounds or a gentle amble, then afterwards enjoy a cream tea and the award-winning on-site café.
