Nestled away deep in the countryside of The Cotswolds is the utterly gorgeous Cerney House Gardens. Offering stunning scenery, pretty walks, the chance to spot a variety of animals and wildlife and even the opportunity to forage in these lush grounds, there is something for everyone in this beautiful part Gloucestershire.
Cerney Gardens are a labour of love; a gorgeous Victoria Walled Garden hidden away from it all deep in the Cotswolds near Cirencester. The Cotswolds very own romantic little secret, the pretty gardens are made up of three and a half acres of sections such as the wildflower banks, the picturesque orchard, the working kitchen garden and herb garden, plus forty acres of woodland and parkland. You will also find the 19th century conservatory and the knot garden, one of the most popular areas of Cerney, filled with blooming roses and with a delicate perfume.
In recent additions, Cerney House has opened a gorgeous nature trail in the gardens, ideal for dog walking. The circuit is just over a mile long and goes through magical woodland areas and close to the garden’s pond; deep within nature you will be able to spot a variety of deer, rabbits and birds – ideal for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. In 2019, the garden also started offering foraging courses and walks so you can learn about all the wonderful and tasty edible goodies this area of the country has to offer. Discover delicious plants and mushrooms and how you can use them in your cooking, as well as learning how to harvest sustainably back at home.
If you’re feeling inspired after strolling through the gorgeous scenery, you can head over to the on-site shop which sells a range of garden goodies from pottery to herbs to flowers. Plus, there is a lovely selection of seasonal fruits and vegetables that are freshly plucked from the gardens to enjoy. There is also a charming self-service tea room called The Bothy in the heart of the walled garden – a cosy and intimate spot to relax after a day of exploration.
