Let your feet roam and imagination run riot at the dog-friendly Canonteign Falls, a gold-award-winning attraction in Devon home to hundreds of acres of woodland and one of England’s largest Victorian follies.
Tucked in the heart of the Teign Valley within the outer realms of Dartmoor National Park, Canonteign Falls features stunning natural and man-made waterfalls that pour down ancient rock formations and tumble into mirror-like lakes below, all surrounded by some of the most rich and biologically diverse woodland in the county.
Truly idyllic whether you are spending a few hours or a whole day, you are invited to discover the park’s luscious depths and tread mossy pathways along three scenic walks. With routes for all abilities and ages, the tranquil setting is accessible to all, leading you past towering trees and giving you the chance to see some of the amazing wildlife who call the waterways and woodland home, including Roe and Fallow deer. Real highlights of the walks are the two waterfalls: the natural falls and the Lady Exmouth Falls.
As you pass by Clampitt Falls, part of the natural falls, you will be led through the Secret Garden and the Victorian Fern Garden (home to an 11ft willow dinosaur) before arriving at the top of the Lady Exmouth Falls and Buzzard’s View. The highest manmade waterfalls in England at 70m high, the falls and viewpoint at Lady Exmouth Falls make for one of the most memorable vantage points and picture-worthy settings imaginable. Drink in the views across South Devon and Dartmoor before taking the path down again, this time heading towards the Lily Lake, Old Orchard and Bee Garden.
If you have little ones with a head for heights and taste for adventure, this route will also lead you to a 30m zipwire and mini-assault course, ideal for children aged between 5 and 12. Accompanied by a children’s play area and plenty of space to sit down and relax, you can watch your little explorers fly through the air and race off around the course, challenging their climbing, swinging and balancing skills!
