'Rivendell was perfect, whether you liked food, or sleep, or work, or story-telling, or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all.' - Lord of the Rings.

Although not quite the last homely house from Tolkien's famous books, this fabulous retreat is a marvellously welcoming home for ten lucky people. With exquisite interiors, huge social spaces, en suite bedrooms and bags of outdoor space, it's ideal for multi-generational families or a group of friends wanting to spend time together. It's also dog friendly (two are most welcome), so your furry friends needn't be left behind. Situated just above the village of Boscastle, you're ideally positioned to explore the wonderful north Cornish coastline and places such as Padstow, Rock, Polzeath, the Camel Estuary, Bodmin Moor, Tintagel and Bude.

Living

There are two exceptional rooms for gatherings; the incredible sitting room is just huge with high vaulted ceiling, sofas that easily seat ten, massive wood burning stove and large coffee table. The size of this space is hard to capture but it's perfect for large gatherings with glass doors leading outside for when the soiree spills into the garden on summery nights. We just adore the touches of green that makes this room so bright and pretty, and there's a huge 65-inch OLED smart TV for when only a film night will do.

In addition, there's a gorgeous snug with seating for five (plus a fab furry beanbag). Complete with a 40-inch LED television, this is great for those seeking a little peace and quiet or for kids to escape to if they want their own space.

There's also a great games room with a pool table, table football, darts board and plenty of books and board games to keep everyone entertained, plus there's SONOS throughout the main living areas.

Eating

The beautiful country kitchen with wooden worktops is just a joy to cook in with a separate electric oven and hob, Belfast sink, separate island with breakfast bar and all the equipment you'll need to rustle up feasts including the all-important bean to cup filter coffee machine. The vaulted ceiling, flagged flooring and exposed stone walls add lots of Cornish character to this light and airy room.

Next door, you'll find the lovely formal dining room with huge table and plenty of comfy seating for ten. The beamed ceiling and cosy feel make is a perfect spot for dinner parties that last well into the night, and glass doors lead outside, so you can leave them open on warm, balmy nights.

Sleeping and bathing

There are five glorious bedrooms, each individually designed and beautifully peaceful, making them a perfect refuge at the end of the day.

Upstairs, the master bedroom is en suite and has a sumptuous king size Hypnos bed, plenty of built in wardrobes, spacious vaulted ceiling and glass door leading outside. The en suite has a freestanding bath and shower. There are two further bedrooms upstairs - a king bedroom with an en suite shower room and a zip-and-link bedroom meaning it can be set up as either twins or a super king bed and has an en suite with a bath with shower overhead. Downstairs, there's a further zip-and-link bedroom and a king bedroom with an en suite shower room.

Each bedroom is beautifully decorated with carefully chosen artwork and storage, and beds are swathed in gorgeous linens and goose down duvets and pillows (hypoallergenic bedding available on request). There's an additional cloak room on the ground floor with a loo and sink.

Outdoor space

To the front of the house lies the gated garden with extensive lawn, sunny terrace and outbuildings for storage. With unspoilt views over rolling fields and out to sea, this is a marvellous spot to relax in on sunny days. There's a table and chairs for alfresco dining too.

Babies and children

A cot, highchair and stairgate are available on request - please bring your own bedding.

Dogs

Two well-behaved dogs are very welcome at Rivendell. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

WiFi

Rivendell has WiFi so if you need to stay in touch with the outside world you can.

Parking

There is plenty of private parking at Rivendell.

In the Area

Perched high on the hills looking down over Boscastle and out to sea, you couldn't ask for a more idyllic setting. Head down to the coast and you can join the South West Coastal Path in either direction for stupendous, scenery-loaded walks whilst inland you'll find ancient woodland and Minster Church, a spiritual site since the 6th century. The village of Boscastle itself has plenty of places to visit or get a bite to eat and drink, such as the National Trust shop and café, whilst pubs The Cobweb, The Riverside or The Napoleon are fab places for a drink and pub grub. Boscastle Farm Shop is worth exploring plus there's a café too, whilst Tintagel Brewery and Restaurant Nathan Outlaw are a short drive away. There's an abundance of beaches nearby for windswept walks during winter or long sunny days swimming; Bude, Widemouth Bay, Bossiney Haven, Trebarwith Strand and Polzeath are well worth a visit.

Our beautiful homestay for ten is gorgeously rural, perched high above Boscastle, boasting mesmerising sea views across the north Cornish coast...

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Rivendell:

Prior to completing this section, I wonder if you could send a response to our comments please, as how these comments are received will affect how we review the property.

We would like to write a positive review but feel disheartened about a few aspects currently. Myself, my sister and my mother had saved for two years so that nine of us (three generations) could share the birthday celebrations and with my mother being one of two aging grandparents, times feel very precious. We had hoped the property would be the icing on the cake for creating treasured memories but at present, it feels tinged.

A beautiful house in a beautiful location, with everything you need for a fantastic family holiday.

We had a fantastic week together as a family in this stunning house. Lots of good pubs and walks locally. The house had stunning views over the sea and a beautiful garden to enjoy! We had everything we needed for the week, so relaxing was easy! We would definitely revisit and would highly recommend!

The house was beautiful and furnished to a high standard and the views from the property were simply stunning. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again or recommend to friends.

Highly recommended. Beautiful house overlooking countryside and out to sea. So much space both in the house and in the gardens. Beautifully styled and equipped. So relaxing and comfortable.

Great house, excellent location, wonderful views.

Beautiful house and even more beautiful mature gardens. Clearly designed by a very good gardener! We 9 plus baby and dog had a fabulous time helped in part by the glorious sunshine.

We really wish we could have stayed longer - such a wonderful property and gorgeous peaceful location.

Lovely comfortable home in a great location, with lovely views of the countryside and sea.

This house was wonderful. It was beautifully furnished and decorated, and was immaculate. We arrived to a lovely selection of local produce and fresh flowers. It was extremely peaceful and the views of the sea and sunsets from the garden were amazing. We had an absolutely lovely holiday and would love to visit again.

Beautiful garden and location, beautiful interior, everything we needed.

Perfect holiday! Thank you

Comfortable and stylish and very spacious house, well provided for with sitting and dining areas. Overall the house is in good condition, well maintained with clean or new kitchen utensils and good bedding. Good garden with some nice views. Plenty of parking. Easy access to Boscastle which is a very attractive and unspoiled village.

Wonderful place - a great Christmas treat for our family.

A fabulous house with so much space. The games room was fantastic for the evenings or rainy days. Loved the area, several interesting and beautiful walks from the house.

The property is a credit to the owners who obviously have taken a great deal of care, thought and clearly have great deal of pride in their property. Fixtures, fittings, design, attention to detail, are of the highest standard Enhancing the property is the work of the cleaners who provided spotless accommodation.

wish it was ours !!!

The beautiful sea view from the garden and main bedroom is under stated in the marketing material. This was an added bonus as well as being in a quiet location out of the main town of Boscastle.

Wonderful space in a beautiful location. Super relaxing yet so much to do. The perfect place for a large family gathering.

Rivendell is a stunning family house in a great location with wonderful sea views and a beautiful garden. If you like walking the footpaths down to Boscastle are picturesque and the town has many and varied places to eat out. Three generations had a great week there thank you.

Rivendell was an excellent home for our holiday. It met all our expectations, beautiful location and a stunning property.

A wonderful cottage in a super location certainly would advise a supermarket delivery on arrival as shops are not close by

The house was spacious enough for three generations of the same family to have their own space! Vital for happy families!

A beautiful retreat in a stunning setting. We woke up every morning with smiles on our faces as we wondered down to the kitchen to gather for breakfast. It didn’t matter what the weather was like outside as there was so much to keep us busy in the house - from gaming in the snug, a film on Netflix in the living room or pool in the games room. The perfect house for eating, drinking, relaxing and socialising.

Superb space , beautifully decorated . Quality living throughout . Ideal location. Would highly recommend
