Eco Escapism

The Gatehouse is part of The Emerald, an award-winning development which is the only truly zero carbon holiday destination in the country having been awarded Code 6 status, the highest possible grading for eco efficiency. Within the five acres of shared grounds is a solar farm which generates all the energy The Emerald needs and more. There is also a useful Tesla charging point for electric cars at The Emerald (please bring your own adaptor for other makes). The owners politely ask that you state on arrival if you plan to take advantage of this service as it is chargeable.

Living

Uncover the heavenly living space, with an open-plan design framed by vaulted ceilings and rustic, exposed wooden beams. Gently illuminated by natural light, it sits alongside glass patio doors that open onto the private, south-facing terrace and alfresco hot tub - perfect in summer when balmy breezes drift in from the garden. Exuding warmth, mottled blush tones adorn a statement feature wall, complemented by off-white walls and wooden floors. A large, comfortable sofa and armchair gather around a brushed wood coffee table and wood burning stove, proposing irresistibly cosy hours when day turns to dusk. For endless entertainment, a Smart TV with Netflix awaits for those cosy evenings fireside.

Eating and dining

Styled in an open-plan design, the sublime Shaker-style kitchen resides alongside the living area and provides an idyllic space for crafting delicious feasts. Mirroring the statement walls of the lounge, it radiates a warm, cosy feel, complemented by open beams and warmed by spotlights. Overhead, the vaulted ceiling features a statement chandelier, evoking a fairytale feel, and the beautiful limestone floor is warmed by underfloor heating for year-round comfort.

To prepare culinary masterpieces, spacious rose-flecked granite work surfaces top pistachio-hued units, while a matching kitchen island takes centre stage in the middle of the room, joined by two dark wood stools. Savour slow moments with cups of coffee from the espresso pod machine, or find inspiration as you prepare your favourite meals from this exquisite space. Once ready to dine, courses can be relished in the adjoining dining space with dining table, paired bench seating and cushion-topped wicker chairs, or outside on the suntrap terrace.

Sleeping and bathing

The Gatehouse has two beautiful bedrooms to choose from.

The master suite exudes ambience with rich purple hues on the walls and soft carpet underfoot. At the centre, a super king-size bed takes pride of place, bedecked in the finest linens and complete with an electronically controlled adjustable mattress. On the walls, feature panels and elegant artworks draw the eye, while vying for attention are idyllic views through glass-panelled French doors over the terrace and orchard beyond. This bedroom is complete with its own ensuite bathroom in apricot with a double walk-in drench-head shower.

A peaceful haven, the second bedroom accommodates a variety of sleeping arrangements with a comfortable super king-size bed that can be transformed into twins upon request. Tastefully contrasting neutral shades with elegant wooden touches, it proposes blissful nights of repose with soothing serenity and the highest quality furnishings. Encouraging lingering lie-ins, the bed is enswathed in super-soft sheets and topped with sumptuous cushions and throws, and overlooks views of the orchard from the windows. Meanwhile, promising space to stow belongings are a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables.

The Gatehouse is also home to a family bathroom with a marble-esque statement wall. A dreamy space for bubble-topped soaks, this bathroom features underfloor heating and a luxurious, double-ended claw-foot bath on a raised step.

Indoor swimming pool and gym

Discover your staycation of daydreams at The Gatehouse, where wonderful onsite facilities ensure every moment is a pleasure. A year-round paradise, it includes the use of a shared swimming pool and gym, as well as an all-weather outdoor tennis court. Spend relaxed moments swimming in the heated indoor pool, working out in the gym, or enjoying coaching lessons from a national-level tennis coach on the court for an unrivalled escape. To keep little ones entertained, there is also a dedicated children's play area in the shared grounds of this eco-friendly, zero-carbon retreat.

Spa room

For a heavenly experience, there is a serene spa room onsite which offers a luxurious range of bespoke massages and treatments, including Caci treatments. Please do get in touch if this is something you wish to arrange.

Outdoor space

A divine dwelling ensconced by private estate, the enchanting reach of The Gatehouse extends beyond its walls and flows into dream wilderness spaces. Step outside onto the private, south-facing terrace and take a seat at the outside bistro table for two, or around the dining table for four and gather over feast nights together. Beyond the garden, five acres of beautifully maintained grounds and woodland invite for rejuvenating moments in nature. Meanwhile, for an additional dose of heaven, you can relax into your own private, alfresco hot tub and gaze at the open sky overhead, resetting your life balance in Boutique style.

Two dogs are very welcome. Please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

Babies and children

Children and one babe-in-arms are welcome at The Gatehouse. A travel cot is provided upon request.

Parking

There is parking for two cars right outside the door at The Gatehouse.

In the Area

Situated in the picturesque Cornish village of Carnon Downs in South Cornwall, The Gatehouse enjoys a wonderful setting for oceanside adventures and winsome country escapades. To uncover the captivating locale, venture over to the National Trust's Trelissick Estate above the River Fal, where tended lawns sweep down into wooded parkland woven with riverside trails. For storybook moments, the Roseland Peninsula is a short ferry journey or car drive away and boasts some of the county's most spectacular scenery, including the striking St Anthony Headland with its far-reaching views and the plethora of sandy coves and beaches. For cyclists, the eleven-mile Bissoe Trail passes nearby on its way to Portreath from Devoran and promises unmissable cycling opportunities. To reward your adventures with delectable fare, The Punchbowl and Ladle resides less than two miles away in Penelewey and serves seasonal menus of delicious repasts. For the best-kept secret, head to The Hidden Hut near Portscatho on the Roseland for divine summer feasts by the ocean, or for fine-dining in style, secure a reservation at The Idle Rocks in St Mawes and Driftwood in Portscatho. In Falmouth, further gourmet delicacies can be found at the Michelin award-winning Culture or The Mulberry. Nearby in Cornwall's capital Truro, sip flavour-infused cocktails at Mannings, or for treats to take back to your retreat, pay a visit to Bread and Butter on River Street or Lawrences on New Bridge Street.
