Smugglers is a beautiful haven with larch cladding for two in the heart of Bodmin Moor. Wonderfully rural and utterly romantic, you can leave your stresses and worries behind and enjoy the pure serenity this retreat has to offer with that special someone. Whether you watch the sunrise through the French doors of your bedroom or crack open a bottle of bubbly and watch the stars in the wooden hot tub, you will never want to leave this alluring bespoke escape.
Living and eating

Stepping into Smugglers, you will find yourself in a spectacularly spacious open-plan living, dining and kitchen area with triple aspect patio doors and windows, leading out to the decking.

With luxurious oak floors throughout, the living space is wonderfully airy and boasts a matching cosy grey sofa and armchair, unique antique suspended lampshades and even a telescope to do some star watching. In this homely space, you can light the toasty wood burner, relax with a bottle of wine and enjoy the night sky over Bodmin Moor whilst snuggled on the sofa. For the cooler months there are thermostatic heaters and underfloor heating throughout the retreat.

In the stylish and modern kitchen, with real granite worktops, you will find everything one could need to rustle up a romantic meal or breakfast in bed. There is a Lavazza coffee pod machine and milk frother for coffee lovers, plus a ceramic hob and oven, and hidden necessities such as a dishwasher and fridge with freezer compartment. Beside the kitchen is the inviting large farmhouse table with padded chairs and sheepskin covered bench, perfect for a spot of lunch or a special evening meal.

Sleeping

Sink into the luxuriously soft king-size bed, kitted out with 100% cotton bed linen, and take in the dazzling views out of the wide French doors. Through these lovely doors you can access the decking, so grab your morning coffee, don your large fluffy bathrobes, open up the bedroom and breathe in that fresh Cornish air.

Bathing

The en-suite bathroom has a romantic free-standing bathtub for two, with a windowsill low enough to enjoy the blissful views over the Cornish hilltops with a glass of wine. There is also a divine walk-in rain shower, heated towel rails, underfloor heating and complimentary St Kitts toiletries. You'll also find a loo in the boot room.

Outdoor space

Accessible from both the bedroom and the living area is a lovely wooden wrap around decking which makes the most of the spectacular views. Step down onto the gravelled courtyard complete with two teak steamer sun loungers to enjoy a spot of al fresco dining or maybe have a dip in the handcrafted wood-fired hot tub. There is a further grass section, just beyond the gravelled area, which you can use to lounge on a blanket in the sun or to let your furry friend run around happily. There is also a Weber charcoal BBQ for your use, as well as a pretty herb garden should you want to cook with fresh ingredients in the kitchen. At the entrance of Smugglers, you will also find some outdoor hanging space - perfect for wetsuits after a day out in the Cornish sea.

Parking

There is space for one car to park at Smugglers.

WiFi

Smugglers is in an isolated "NotSpot" so this is the perfect retreat to purge yourself of the negativity of social media, clear your mind and truly relax with nature. But should you want a sneaky peak at your emails, there is general good reception at Smugglers so you can still use your data for the internet.

Dogs

Two well behaved dogs are very welcome at Smugglers. There is a dog towel, water bowl and food bowl for your four-legged friend. We charge £30 per dog per week or short break. Please note that dogs do need to be kept under strict control at Smugglers as there is a lot of livestock in adjacent fields to the property. The garden is enclosed and secure, however there are a couple of rings ties as well should you fear your furry friend will make a dash for it.

Location

Please be aware that the last 400 meters of the access route is via a rough farm track, in case you have a car with low profile tyres or low suspension. The owners are situated nearby and are on hand if you need anything during your stay.

Smoking

Smugglers is a non-smoking property and we ask that guests don't smoke anywhere at the property or in the grounds due to being situated on moorland and the potential for wildfires, thank you for your understanding.

Spa Treatments

The owners can arrange in house spa treatments so you can relax and unwind in your beautiful surroundings.

In the Area

At Smugglers you have the whole of Bodmin Moor at your fingertips. From the cottage you can see Brown Wily, Roughtor, Garrow Tor, Hawks Tor, Alex Tor and King Arthurs Hall; a walker's paradise to which you can hike from Smugglers to each of these famous Cornish landmarks. The surrounding area is used as a film location for the TV series Poldark and Doc Martin so you may see some familiar sites and scenes!

'A wonderful, remote location which is exactly what we were looking for with nothing but the moor and wildlife in view. We appreciated the thoughtfulness in providing everything we could possibly need - and especially the delightful welcome pack as well.' - May 2019

'Smugglers was a little gem, beautiful property in beautiful and peaceful surroundings, our trip was the best we have had and we take our hats off to Steve and Sue in creating such a wonderful space. More importantly our dogs were made to feel welcome which was so lovely. The quality of the lodge and the thought process that went in to creating the retreat was extraordinary.' - April 2019

'Our time at Smugglers has gone far too quickly. Like all the other guests before us we wanted to take the time to thank Sue and Steve for creating this amazing space for us to relax and enjoy. 'Our hosts were brilliant, Sue gave us lovely welcome and also a welcome hamper which was a real treat. The accommodation was beautiful, lovely design and furnishings and very clean. It was well equipped with everything we needed. The location was perfectly secluded to give us space but didn’t take too long to get to any of the surrounding seaside towns. The perfect relaxing retreat! We wish we could have stayed for longer!' - April 2019

'We have absolutely loved our getaway to Smugglers. A well needed escape, we loved being surrounded by the sounds of sheep, birds and not much else! Smugglers is a beautiful haven, you have equipped and decorated it so beautifully - we enjoyed staying in as much as the stunning scenery and surrounding towns. The wood-fired hot tub is a fantastic touch. Thank you so much for your lovely welcome and helping us have a refreshing holilday - five days just seems too short - we will just have to come back some time' - April 2019
