Smugglers is a beautiful haven with larch cladding for two in the heart of Bodmin Moor. Wonderfully rural and utterly romantic, you can leave your stresses and worries behind and enjoy the pure serenity this retreat has to offer with that special someone. Whether you watch the sunrise through the French doors of your bedroom or crack open a bottle of bubbly and watch the stars in the wooden hot tub, you will never want to leave this alluring bespoke escape.
Living and eating

Stepping into Smugglers, you will find yourself in a spectacularly spacious open-plan living, dining and kitchen area with triple aspect patio doors and windows, leading out to the decking.

With luxurious oak floors throughout, the living space is wonderfully airy and boasts a matching cosy grey sofa and armchair, unique antique suspended lampshades and even a telescope to do some star watching. In this homely space, you can light the toasty wood burner, relax with a bottle of wine and enjoy the night sky over Bodmin Moor whilst snuggled on the sofa. For the cooler months there are two thermostatic heaters and underfloor heating throughout the retreat.

In the stylish and modern kitchen, with real granite worktops, you will find everything one could need to rustle up a romantic meal or breakfast in bed. There is a Lavazza coffee pod machine and milk frother for coffee lovers, plus a ceramic hob and oven, and hidden necessities such as a dishwasher and fridge with freezer compartment. Beside the kitchen is the inviting large farmhouse table with padded chairs and sheepskin covered bench, perfect for a spot of lunch or a special evening meal.

Sink into the luxuriously soft king-size bed, kitted out with 100% cotton bed linen, and take in the dazzling views out of the wide French doors. Through these lovely doors you can access the decking, so grab your morning coffee, open up the bedroom and breathe in that fresh Cornish air.

The en-suite bathroom has a romantic free-standing bathtub for two, with a windowsill low enough to enjoy the blissful views over the Cornish hilltops with a glass of wine. There is also a divine walk-in rain shower, heated towel rails, underfloor heating and complimentary St Kitts toiletries. You'll also find a loo in the boot room.

Outdoor space

Accessible from both the bedroom and the living area is a lovely wooden wrap around decking which makes the most of the spectacular views. Step down onto the gravelled courtyard to enjoy a spot of al fresco dining or maybe have a dip in the handcrafted wood-fired hot tub. There is a further grass section, just beyond the gravelled area, which you can use to lounge on a blanket in the sun or to let your furry friend run around happily. There is also a Weber charcoal BBQ for your use, as well as a pretty herb garden should you want to cook with fresh ingredients in the kitchen. At the entrance of Smugglers, you will also find some outdoor hanging space - perfect for wetsuits after a day out in the Cornish sea. Please note that the garden has recently been seeded with wild flowers and grass which will flourish over the coming weeks.

There is space for one car to park at Smugglers.

Smugglers is in an isolated "NotSpot" so this is the perfect retreat to purge yourself of the negativity of social media, clear your mind and truly relax with nature. But should you want a sneaky peak at your emails, there is general good reception at Smugglers so you can still use your data for the internet.

Two well behaved dogs are very welcome at Smugglers. There is a dog towel, water bowl and food bowl for your four-legged friend. We charge £30 per dog per week or short break. Please note that dogs do need to be kept under strict control at Smugglers as there is a lot of livestock in adjacent fields to the property. The garden is enclosed and secure, however there are a couple of rings ties as well should you fear your furry friend will make a dash for it.

Please be aware that the last 400 meters of the access route is via a rough farm track, in case you have a car with low profile tyres or low suspension. The owners are situated nearby and are on hand if you need anything during your stay.

At Smugglers you have the whole of Bodmin Moor at your fingertips. From the cottage you can see Brown Wily, Roughtor, Garrow Tor, Hawks Tor, Alex Tor and King Arthurs Hall; a walker's paradise to which you can hike from Smugglers to each of these famous Cornish landmarks. The surrounding area is used as a film location for the TV series Poldark and Doc Martin so you may see some familiar sites and scenes!

For those wanting to catch a wave or two on the beautiful North Coast, you are just a 30-minute drive from both Trebarwith Strand and Polzeath Beach. You are also only 40 minutes from the stunning Tintagel Castle which overlooks the dramatic and rugged North coastline.

A 40-minute drive away is the beloved foodie capital Padstow. This characterful fishing port boasts the well-known Camel Cycle Trail, golden beaches near by and a wide breadth of delicious restaurants to dine at.

'Smugglers is gorgeous! The owners are welcoming and helpful, and then leave you alone. This is a truly unique place to stay, and a real retreat from civilisation, but in the best way. Smugglers is a delight to stay in, all the amenities are there, and more. Waking up in the morning, looking out on to the moor is just a dream, as is the hot tub! The description, accurately, says the last part of the journey to Smugglers is an un made up road, but don't let that put anyone off, with a bit of careful driving most cars would get there, and it is so worth it. Thank you for a lovely escape from reality!' - November 2018

'The worst thing about Smugglers is... leaving! Thank you Sue and Steve for sharing your lovely home with us, for the thoughtful welcome pack and card, the fabulous scenery and don't let us forget the hot tub!! Our two four leffed friends have seemed to have benefitted too, just like us, from the tranquil seclusion. Can't wait to return!' - November 2018

'Smugglers is just beautiful - so well thought out, beautiful furniture, gorgeous pictures, everything is just such wonderful quality. We did some good walking but also very much needed rebalancing too - and Smugglers was the ideal place for us. I will be taking some of your design ideas with me as we move house in November and love the way you have decorated this place. A huge well done for creating such a fabulous place for guests - I don't want to leave but will be back and will tell everyone I know just how fab Smuggler's is. Thank you so much' - October 2018

'Thank you for providing such a wonderful place for us to stay. When we booked (very last minute) we wanted the perfect retreat to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle and we certainly got that. We've loved being so secluded and surrounded by beautiful countryside, yet with all the facilities we could possibly have wanted. We've thoroughly enjoyed our stay and thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality' - September 2018

'What a beautiful, tranquil and comfy slice of haven you've created here. We enjoyed it all - from the creative comfort of the furnishings and hot tub to the sound of nothing but sheep, birds and bees, and of course the view of the moor' - September 2018
