Living

The charming sitting room, adorned in neutral shades and soft grey tones, is the heart of this lovely home. Inspired by the history of Shipton Gorge, originally held by the De Gorge family in Norman times, Marivaux's interior design epitomises French country style. Complete with two sumptuous sofas and snug armchairs in Zoffany fabric, there's plenty of space to unwind, whilst the delightful wood burning stove promises cosy fireside moments. Featuring a rustic wooden coffee table, antique-style furnishings and a large window overlooking the heavenly garden, blissful quietude awaits. For those seeking cosy nights in, catch up with your favourite series or settle down with a classic film on the Smart TV, with a Freeview DVD player.

In addition, you'll find a Robert's radio with Bluetooth and an iPod dock, just made for curating the perfect playlist during your stunning staycation.

Eating

Leading on from the sitting room, the kitchen with its semi-vaulted ceiling is a chef's dream. With a wooden floor, stylish cabinets, and marbled worktops, this is a beautiful space for crafting those culinary delights. Marivaux is complete with everything you'll need, from an electric cooker, induction hob and microwave, to a fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine- not forgetting the all-important Nespresso coffee machine and SONOS speaker. A lovely dining table for six looks out through the French doors onto the pretty courtyard garden, creating a calming space for pared back brunches and divine dinners enjoyed with a glass of something special.

Sleeping

There are three dreamy bedrooms to choose from at Marivaux.

Tucked away on the ground floor, a twin bedroom in blush tones is the perfect hideaway for children after a busy day exploring and playing in the garden, complete with hanging space and a chest of drawers to stow away belongings.

Take the stairs to the first floor and there are a further two gorgeously dressed bedrooms to choose from. The Parisian-style master bedroom boasts two windows overlooking the countryside, whilst the double bed, adorned with swathes of romantic drapes ensures for the sweetest of slumbers. At the foot of the divan lies a chaise for reclining, and a day bed too - the perfect spot for an afternoon nap. In addition, there's a wardrobe and cupboards for storing your belongings safely away.

The third bedroom is a delight in shades of pastel pink, with dual-aspect windows offering tranquil country vistas. With a double bed, dressing table, occasional chair, and drawers, this beautifully peaceful room is a quiet spot to rest after a day exploring the beauty spots of Dorset.

All beds come swathed in luxurious linens, cloud-soft bedding and opulent cushions and throws, making long lie-ins and breakfast in bed a must.

Bathing

On the first floor, uncover the contemporary family bathroom with gorgeous, marbled tiling, a separate shower and a roll top bath with an overhead shower - perfect for soothing, bubble-topped soaks.

You'll also find a shower room located on the ground floor. In addition, all bathroom spaces feature heated towel rails to ensure towels are kept warm and fluffy.

Outdoor space

The courtyard is just a delight with a lovely knot garden, the perfect spot for peaceful relaxation, whilst there's a small paddock next door to the house that's ideal for little ones for games. A large wooden dining table and Weber Kettle charcoal barbeque are provided for alfresco feasting in the warmer seasons, whilst the quaint bench and garden chairs are just made for slow afternoons. Retire on the lawn with snug picnic blankets or move to the patio for sun-soaked moments with homemade lemonade. For alfresco moments of bliss, you will also find a bubbling hot tub at Marivaux.

Parking

There is private, off-road parking for two cars directly outside the gates to the retreat.

Babies and children

Marivaux welcomes babes-in-arms and children. One travel cot and highchair can be provided on request. Please bring your own cot bedding along with you.

Dogs

One small, well behaved dog is very welcome at Marivaux - please note, there is an additional fee per dog, per week or short break.

We were very pleased with our retreat as it was as depicted and expected . We have used other luxury sites in the past where this wasn’t the case . We had an excellent comfortable stay and are looking for our next retreat with you . Thank You

A lovely, cosy home in the perfect location. We were greeted with some gorgeous treats which were such a delight. The views from the gardens were stunning and we had a lovely week away.

Was one of the best cottages we have stayed in - furnished and decorated to a very high standard

Cottage is gorgeous and great welcome pack - I'd forgotten to bring butter and there was a pack waiting for us in the fridge.

Lovely location, peaceful, birds singing and lovely part of Dorset. Some great pubs nearby - highly recommend.
