Welcome to the pretty coastal town of Lynton! Known as England’s ‘little Switzerland’, it lies nestled between the coast and the edge of Exmoor, and it is a fascinating town to stay in and explore with stunning sea views. 

With a touch of Victorian glamour about it, Lynton has great architecture whilst the delightful Cliff Railway is a must, the world’s steepest water-powered railway which runs from Lynton down to Lynmouth Harbour. From here you can walk up the river to majestic Watersmeet, a stunning natural landmark with incredible views and wildlife, plus it has an excellent tearoom. Another easily walkable landmark is the impressive Valley of Rocks, home to prehistoric rock formations, herds of roaming goats and excellent coastal views. 

The town itself has some great places to eat from quirky coffee shops and pretty tea rooms to great pubs and restaurants, you’ll not fall short of choice, whilst there’s some lovely independent shops to explore. 

From Lynton you’re a short drive away from Exmoor and the beaches of Ilfracombe, Woolacombe  and Saunton Sands, so it’s a wonderful base from which to discover the quieter north Devon coastline.
