CORNWALL

From Ross and Demelza to Arthur and Guinevere, Cornwall has been the setting for many literary love affairs and it’s not surprising with such a perfect setting. St. Ives is perfect with its lovely galleries, iconic Carbis Bay, boutique shops and fab eateries. The Lizard in the far west has some amazing coastal walks and a must is the cosy Polpeor Cafe which has stunning views out to sea and quite frankly amazing cakes. Padstow and Rock are pretty with some fab restaurants such as Outlaw’s at St. Enodoc Hotel and of course Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant. Bodmin Moor has a rugged and mysterious beauty (think Du Maurier’s Jamaica Inn) and well worth a stomp about. DEVON

From the sweeping sands of the coastline to the oh-so-pretty Dartmoor, there are plenty of places to discover in Devon for the romantically inclined. Whether it’s exploring the cathedral at Exeter, seeing two rivers merge at the iconic Dartmeet, strolling through the magical Doone Valley or wine tasting, there’s something to suit even the most particular of couples. Croyde Bay in North Devon is pretty iconic and said to boast some of the most beautiful sunsets in the South West – what could be more romantic than strolling hand in hand whilst the sun sets? If you’re more into your food and drink, Sharpham Wine & Cheese just outside Totnes is perfect for a tour and tasting. SOMERSET

Somerset is jam-packed with places to explore whilst on honeymoon. Glastonbury isn’t just about the festival – it’s also reputedly the last resting place of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere, the remains of which can be found in the Abbey Church – you couldn’t get much more romantic than that! A climb up the Tor is worth the effort with stunning views across the Somerset Levels, and for a typical Glasto meal check out the Hundred Monkeys Cafe. The medieval city of Wells nestling in the Mendip Hills is definitely worth exploring with its stunning cathedral and lovely streets. Of course Bath is a must with lovely architecture, fab shopping, excellent eateries and the Thermae Bath Spa, where you can admire the birds’ eye view of Bath from the rooftop pool. For something a bit more out in the country, the Quantock Hills are lovely to explore by foot or by bike, followed of course by a lovely cream tea. DORSET

Pretty Dorset is a fantastic spot for a honeymoon. Sometimes feeling like you’ve stepped back in time, the county is filled with picture-perfect villages, rolling hills and ancient Jurassic coastline. Lyme Regis, made famous by ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’, is a lovely seaside town with the iconic Cobb jutting out to sea. A fab thing to do is to bask in the stunning views whilst sampling the local seafood at Hix Oyster & Fish House. Kingston Lacy is an elegant country manor not too far from Poole with amongst other things a lovely Japanese garden and a jaw-dropping art collection (including Rubens, Van Dyck, Titian and Brueghel). To blow the cobwebs away, a stroll around the headland of Portland Bill is a must and if you’re out that way check out the Crab House Cafe which boasts its own oyster beds and has views over Chesil beach. COTSWOLDS

away your time exploring the countryside in a cherry-red vintage car. However delve a little deeper and there are some hidden gems to be found. In the pretty little village of Winchcombe you’ll find the lovely Sudeley Castle - the final resting place of Henry VIII’s last wife, Catherine Parr. Near Chipping Campden lies the exquisite Hidecote Manor Gardens, whilst head towards Snowshill and you’ll find the pretty and eccentric Snowshill Manor, packed to the rafters with oddities from around the world collected by the owner. For fab places to eat, check out Mark Hix’s restaurant at Cowley Manor, near Cheltenham, enjoy a lovely cream tea at Tisanes in Broadway or enjoy a cut-above pub lunch at The Gumstool, set in the grounds of Calcot Manor. HAMPSHIRE

Lovely Hampshire has a surprising amount to offer honeymooners. Why not take an early morning air balloon flight over the lovely city of Winchester, inspiration for the Romantic poet Keats, with a glass of bubbly in your hand? Hampshire was the home of Jane Austen, so what could be more apt than unleashing your hidden Mr. Darcy and Lizzy Bennett and go horse riding in the New Forest. If open water is more your thing, why not charter a yacht and head out towards the Isle of Wight? There are plenty of extraordinary places to eat, from Hartnett Holder & Co in Lyndhurst to The Black Rat in Winchester, you’ll not want for lack of lovely restaurants.
