At Boutique Retreats, we love supporting local charities and, recently, we were able to offer a £1,000 donation to the wonderful Cornwall Blood Bikes.
A fantastic local charity, Cornwall Blood Bikes are a volunteer-run organisation who transport urgent medical items for our NHS throughout Cornwall and beyond. Fully self-funded, their team of volunteers operates 365 days a year in all weathers to deliver supplies, providing an invaluable lifeline to hospitals, hospices and their patients of all generations. Of course, we were absolutely delighted to be able to support them.
First founded in 2011 and becoming a registered charity in 2012, Cornwall Blood Bike’s volunteers have been saving lives for over 20 years. Promoting motorcycle safety, relieving NHS services and championing the health and safety of those in need, the charity’s volunteers freely offer their time to transport all kinds of urgent medical supplies, including pathology samples, blood, platelets, medical notes and equipment, medication and donor breast milk.

Working between 5pm and 7am during the week and around the clock on weekends and bank holidays, it is believed they save the NHS around £300,000 a year in Cornwall alone – saving countless lives along the way. In 2021 alone, the charity’s team of riders racked up 218,493 miles across 6,736 jobs, ferrying urgent supplies across the county and further across the South West to hospitals, clinics, laboratories, doctors and more.
Speaking about the work of the charity, the Cornwall Blood Bikes fundraising team said: “our motorcyclists freely volunteer their time to the service, some boasting decades of continual service to the NHS and the wider community. In terms of donating to us, every single penny of what we raise goes straight back into keeping our wheels turning. Thank you so much for your incredibly generous donation, it is absolutely fantastic”.
